UConn VS Duke on Thanksgiving Eve

For openers, it appears that Duke is attempting to become the men's basketball version of what ND football was (and believes it still is).
So not ND

"In addition to our outstanding partnership with ESPN, we are excited to work with Prime Video on this groundbreaking initiative," Duke athletic director Nina King said. "As Prime Video's first college sports partner, this collaboration not only expands the global reach of Duke Men's Basketball, but also creates meaningful opportunities for our student-athletes in a way that reflects innovation and excellence."

you dont have amazon prime for deliveries? Lol
Nope I have Walmart+ for $49.00 and that is fine for most of my needs coupled with ebay. If I ever feel the need to use Amazon I have like 20 accounts and one of them always seems to be offering the free month or $1.49 for 7 day trial.

Seriously? So getting a chance to play a fellow blue blood on a neutral floor, make north of 500k, is "not a good thing?"
Not saying it’s not a good thing but how does Duke get all of that and UConn gets pennies in comparison? It’s a neutral site game.

Yes if they get four times the money. The game is now all about the money until there is some type of salary cap. It is as simple as that.

Duke is getting compensated for its new partnership with Amazon. We're getting paid to face them.

In the Realignment forum there's a post stating that Duke negotiated with the ACC and ESPN for the freedom to make this deal with Amazon. We should at least attempt to negotiate with the BE and the 22 broadcast partners to free a couple non-conference opportunities that we can bring to Amazon (or perhaps a different carrier). The worst that can happen is they tell us no, which puts us in the same boat we're already in.

Right but Amazon bought the rights to that game in Vegas. The way I’m reading it is:

UConn gets paid by the organizers to show up

Duke gets paid by the organizers to show up PLUS millions more by the company who purchased the rights to the game

Would ESPN have given Duke extra money if they kept the rights?

Just kind of feels like we’re being fleeced

.-.
We're getting well compensated to participate, while is Duke is getting a ludicrous sweet heart deal per their usual treatment.

That said, their weenie fans are going to have to squirm through Amazon showing the Mullins miracle over and over leading up to and during the game, while I relish every second of it.

I'll take that trade.

UConn: we want to sell our rights to make money on property you already have paid for and own.

FOX: no

Uconn should propose a champions classic type event with Us, Michigan, Arizona, and Florida. Four corners. Call it the Core Four Classic.

I mean if uconn were smart, they'd be trying tomsething similar...negotiating an OOC "league" or something which pays a small set of schools a large amount to set their OOC schedules for the next 10 years or something.

There are enough schools trying to crack into the old-boys club that are high profile right now to make it happen.

I think we now know how they were prepared to pay all of that NIL money to a redundant roster of similar players.

.-.
UConn can not get the deal Duke got. Fox won't allow it, and remember Duke is having to trade ESPN scheduling out of conference games for them in 27 and 28. It is still a great deal for Duke.

I just don't get the downside of this from UConn's perspective. If you think we are "getting fleeced" because Duke is making more money...what is the alternative? Turn down the chance to face one of our biggest rivals in Vegas, a north of 500k payout, with many other NIL opportunities for the players and the school, and a game that will be built up for months? Why, so we can play a buy game against some crappy opponent?

He is incorrect, we are not getting fleeced. It's a good opportunity.

On Prime. Yuck. I will have to use a free trial to get it for this game.

Nooooooo there are already too many platforms... Put all the games on TV, please...
