So let's recalibrate. For the first time in forever, we're not playing for an at-large bid. So we're playing with two goals: to win the Big EAst regular season, and failing that to finish in the top 4 and make the tournament. The conference is clearly stronger top to bottom than it was in previous years, but the top isn't the level of a good (or even average for us) UConn team either. Also, based on both league and OOC performance to date, there are really five teams who look good enough to finish top 4, with the others lagging.

Which is a long winded way of saying that taking 2 out of 3 at home this weekend against a contender to win the league, who has played better than us to date, is a step towards both goals. Let's get it done.

Top 2nd, Van Emon walks the first 2 batters, and a 1 out single loads the bases. A wild pitch brings in a run to tie the game at 1 with 1 out. Another walk loads the bases, and another walk with 1 out brings in run. 2-1 St. John's.

Van Emon comes out of the game, Ian Cooke takes the mound.

A 1 out double drives in 2 runs, 4-1 St. John's. Cooke retires the next 2 batters to end the inning.
