Why is it that watching some of these games is like watching my kid in his first year of kid pitch. I just can't believe all the walks.

With 2 outs Daniels gets in base due to an infield error, another run scores. 13-4 UConn.

Bottom 8th, the UConn offense goes down in order. 13-4 UConn.

Top 9th, Hamberger gets a lefty batter out for the 1st out, and then comes out of the game. Mayer takes the mound. This is just the 2nd game Mayer has been in this season.

Mayer gets the next 2 outs to end the game, UConn wins 13-4.

Shaw had a pretty efficient outing, if he can give us that length as a potential 4th starter in tournament play it would be a huge plus
Either Shaw or Cooke, if they’re effective that day, can go as long as West or Ellison are giving us consistently. The problem is getting through the first 3 games without having used Shaw or Cooke enough to let them do that. Realistically, that requires either at least one blow out (win or loss) where we get some innings from back end pitchers, or us getting at least 16 innings or so from our 3 starters.

-> Connecticut entered on the NCAA tournament bubble 11 days before Selection Monday. The Huskies are one of the hottest teams in the nation having won 21 of 23 after Thursday night’s victory at Elliot Ballpark, but because of a rocky start during a 57-day period spent almost exclusively on the road to open the 2025 season, Connecticut has an RPI that is sitting right in the danger zone. The Huskies entered the weekend with an RPI of 43. As has been the case each of the past two weekends, one bad loss to a team in the bottom half of the national RPI rankings (Maine entered at 181) could thwart Connecticut’s last six weeks of excellence. <-

-> Van Emon (0-1, 11.49) has got hit around and struggled with his command all season, walking 18 in 15.2 innings. He was removed from the Friday role after two starts. Cooke lasted a month in the Saturday role before re-assigned after giving up 25 runs in 13.2 innings. Ellisen saw his ERA balloon up to nearly 9.00 early in April. Suchy (3-4, 5.93) became one of a handful of talented arms on the shelf when he was lost for the season after an elbow injury at Creighton, joining Brown transfer Paxton Meyers and sophomore Ben Schild as potential starters lost for the season.

“It wasn’t easy. It has been a very different year,” Penders said. “We’ve always built our team around pitching. This year, we’ve built it a little bit more around offense. We’ve had to, we’ve had to really hit.” <-

-> “He seems to have found his niche,” Penders said of Cooke. “I love handing him the ball now. It took us a while to figure it out, but I think coming out of the pen has served him really well. I don’t know if we’re going to be able to continue to do that in the postseason. We may need him to start, but he’s been really, really good and has kept a really positive attitude. He knows what’s necessary now, and he knows himself.” <-

Yeah. Good length from starters is key. And not overuse Afthim. Cause we'll need him.

I would like to see him take the last 2 games off so he is strong for BET and beyond. The 2 2/3rd inning saves are wearing him down.

Afthim has not been overworked this year overall. Last year he was incredibly babied by the staff but he’s been given a reasonable workload this year.

wouldnt mind an inning just to stay sharp. Hes going to throw bullpens anyway, but I agree.
If so, I would put him on a pitch count. Closers who come in to get work most of the time are not efficient and usually throw a lot of pitches without the adrenaline flowing.
