UConn v. Houston — Game Thread

Good ... we are spared Geno saying they can't run whatever I set up!

Justine is going to blow a gasket about this microphone stuff.

The Houston cheerleaders look happy at least. This is the second game in a row where the half time report is inaudible. Does SNY not check their microphones before a broadcast or do they just wing it?

Baskets in the Paint at the half
UConn 5 + 9= 14
Springers Baseball Town Gals 2+ 2 =4

Three-point shooting a tad off, and assists/fg ratio is way off. Otherwise, good half.

That's usually the job of the sound man, but in a low budget operation like SNY, who knows?

Phee ... want her shots to drop in the second half. Don't need her exposed to funk potential!

Wireless mikes are a pain. Trust me. When they work right, I’m almost surprised.

I used plenty of wireless mikes over the years. Vast majority worked well. But some brands are just duds.

Anyone know if the broadcast crew travels with the team?

They have a really tough official scorer on this game - Lou made two really good passes into Z for lay-ups and neither was recorded as an assist, on one Z took one dribble so ok, maybe, but the other was right into the lay-up. I was watching and Uconn had 6 assists on the first seven baskets, and then it was a LONG stretch before the scorer assigned another assist.
Either ESPN is not getting a good feed or the scorer's assist button is malfunctioning.

I don’t think that was a foul on Gabby as she drove as player didn’t have position. Plus they seem to have missed KLS assist to Kia on fast break at beginning, steal by KLS before fast break with Crystal and the controlled tip rebound. So fun to see Mikayla play in the rotation, it seems to help with confidence.

The more common problems are battery failures and interference. A 9v battery that tests As “good” may not always supply enough current for some mikes. Some mikes act up if you have a cell phone in your pocket. I have a simple solution in my studio...I don’t use them.
