Bottom 4th, Maycock gets hit by a pitch (surprise!!), and eventually scores on a 1 out Bushling triple. 5-0 UConn. Kyler Fedko follows with a sac fly to make it 6-0.

Covid rears its ugly head. The second game of the doubleheader has been cancelled, as is tomorrow's game.

Well, I guess it was just a matter of time. A good argument for no fans going forward.

A number of other UConn sports that have been playing this spring have lost games due to Covid protocols, including field hockey, soccer, softball, and others. It probably was a matter of time as you say.

.-.
Chris Jones saying the UConn baseball program will be shut down for at least 48 hours. Have to think the game at Bryant on Tuesday is questionable at this point.

Top 6th, Peterson faces the minimum with the help of a line drive double play.

.-.
Top 7th, Peterson starts off with 2 strikeouts, gets a fly ball out to end the game, a 6-0 UConn win. Peterson ended the game at 78 pitches, so he probably could have pitched another inning.

So Crawford, Wang, Willis and Stock are all having Covid issues as far as we know?

Penders didn't say names in the interview, but it would look like based on what Chris Jones said yesterday, it would seem that Willis and Stock tested positive before the Georgetown series started, and that the third player is probably Crawford, it seems they got his result during the game today after he told people this morning he wasn't feeling well, which no doubt led to his removal from the lineup. Not sure what is going on with Jimmy Wang, but Chris Jones said during today's game that he is Crawford's roommate, and that he had not been feeling well earlier in the week.

Discussion of the Covid issues at this point, plus the excellent performance by Austin Peterson on the mound today. He is getting to be consistently good with his starts, that is for sure.

No entries I can see after 2:29. (couldn't see huskymedic's 3:29 post.) Was the second game cancelled? Covid?

Never mind. From uconnhuskies.com : The seven inning ballgame was suppose to be the first game of a doubleheader but due to an abundance of caution due to Covid-19. The Huskies have gone on pause for the next 48 hours and the final two games against Georgetown have been canceled

Game Notes
  • With his single in the second inning, Chris Brown has a career-high seven game hit streak.
  • UConn finishes its first home stand at brand new Elliot Ballpark with a 10-1 record.
  • The Huskies outscored Georgetown 16-0 in two seven inning ballgames this weekend.
  • Saturday's shutout was the sixth of the season for UConn.
Next game is scheduled to be @ Bryant on Tuesday afternoon 🤞

Definitely keep those fingers crossed for that Bryant game.

Pitcher of the Week -Ben Casparius, UConn, Jr., RHP (Westport, Conn.):

UConn junior righty Ben Casparius repeats as BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after he produced a 15-strikeout, seven-inning complete-game shutout win for the Huskies. Casparius limited to Georgetown to just five hits in 110 pitches behind 10 runs from the UConn offense. During his appearance, he walked only one batter. The win was the first for UConn in league play since rejoining in the summer of 2020.

Honor Roll - Kyler Fedko, UConn:

Fedko batted .700 (7-10) in a 3-0 week for UConn. He tallied five RBI with six runs scored, two triples. He went 3-for-4 in the non-conference win, 9-8, over Bryant.
