Looked around but didn't see an off topic board that really fits, and since this is (mainly about) the UConn men trading cards, figured I'd post it here. If a mod wants to move it to another forum they feel fits the topic better, by all means go ahead. But for UConn related trading card discussion, hop on in!

I collected sports cards back when I was a kid in the early 90s, and recently got back into HR hobby. Licensed college cards only recently came back, so I dove in last year. My mission is to complete the Solomon Ball rainbow set (collecting all alternate versions of a player's base card) for 2023/24 Bowman University Best Basketball. I've gotten most of the easier to get cards, but the rarer copied obviously have been harder to get. There is also a 1 out of 1 "superfractor" out there somewhere for Ball but seems like it hasn't surfaced yet ...gonna be hard to get that one.

Hoped to complete the rainbow set before the season started (and Ball goes off) but not looking likely.:D

Also a few other cards of Castle I've gotten (and my holy grail card of Paige and Stephon).

Yeah, singles are the way to go....basically will never get dusted (well, unless you get Wander Franco'd :eek:) like can easily happen ripping packs. Though the allure of hitting "the big one" draws so many people in.
 
So something only card collectors would remotely care about, but it seems Castle might be Topps/Fanatics only for autographs. Don't see him having any autos in any of the upcoming Panini releases (NBA Hoops, Prizm Draft picks etc). Do see Spencer, Clingan, and Newton having autos though.

Dang that’s annoying, those unlicensed photoshop Topps cards usually look pretty lame.

Hawkins was clearly on that same sort of deal but happy at least Clingan will have autos on 100s of cards.

I’ll see you guys on eBay battling for $3 autos of Spencer and Newton, may the best Husky fan win!

Yeah, the NBA trading card scene is in a weird place right now. Topps releasing sets but unlicensed...but they also have exclusive deals with several players (headlined by Wemby), which is one reason Wemby may not ever have a fully licensed autograph rookie card (either unlicensed Topps autograph or licensed non-auto Panini). Meanwhile other players have exclusive deals with Panini, so even when Topps gets the license later this year, there will be no autograph cards of those players. And a legend like Jordan remains Upper Deck-only, so he's pretty much excluded from all modern releases.

And I'm not even sure about the WNBA license and if Topps will get that as well in addition to the NBA license, but Bueckers and Clark are Panini-only, so no Topps autograph cards for them either.

I'll keep happily collecting UConn cards though, even though college cards are shunned by a segment of the card collecting hobby. No matter what pro team players sign with, they'll be a Husky forever!

Looks like the 2024 Topps Chrome McDonald's All-American set is gonna release soon. McNeeley should have cards in this set (think he was the only Husky named to the McD's team last year). Also saw a mock-up of one of Sarah Strong's cards. Also some dude named Flagg or something in the set. :rolleyes:

They didn't fix it in the online preview. :rolleyes: Maybe they did in the final printed version, but doubt it knowing Topps' QC.

2024-25 Bowman University Chrome goes on sale at noon today. Looks like for the men, McNeeley, Ball, Karaban, Nowell are in the set. For the women, it's only Strong and Allie Ziebell....no Paige B, which is a big bummer.

I purchase the 2024 NIL UCONN men's basketball set last year and was fortunate in that it included a Cam Spencer signed card. Do these cards show up at card shows in CT?

Probably pretty rare since it was limited release set, but if you were gonna find some at a card show, a CT card show would be your best bet!

It’s some kind of custom card someone made themselves I think and got autographed. Got it for a couple bucks on eBay a few years back before she blew up. There were a few other ones like this, and actually saw one resold for $200 a few months after I bought it lol.
