Fantastic! It’s nice to see that Steph Flight Club card actually exists. I’ve been looking for ages.
Got it from a Bowman Best box I got (myself) for Xmas. :D I guess the Flight Club cards are very rare even though they aren't numbered or anything. Supposedly 1 out of every 12 boxes.

There are so many card companies with different series and special cards that I have no idea if I’m holding something special. Not like the old days of Fleer, Topps, Donruss, Skybox, etc. There is a card show down by me in Feb that I’ll probably take my son to, although it won’t be the same experience as the smoke filled Milford Knights of Columbus shows that I went to as a kid.
Yeah, seriously, there are so many different sets now it can be overwhelming for people just getting onto the scene. Or even people that have been around a while. I mean I think there are literally at least 2 dozen+ different sets Wemby has a rookie card in (and more technically "rookie" cards will be released in new sets through Q1 2025). And scalpers/breakers scoop up the new releases and they sell out before most casual collectors can even order then, which results in jacked up prices from 3rd party sellers.

Compared to the professional sports leagues (NBA, MLB, NFL etc), there are relatively few college basketball sets....it's pretty much just the Bowman sets and maybe Panini has a few unlicensed sets they release, so it's a bit easier to collect college cards. Though still not easy or that particularly cheap.

Damn, nice job! Yeah, it’s weird. They’re not that pricey but they’re definitely hard to find.

Somewhat related: went to the Celtics Bucks game a couple Fridays ago. Brought my 8 year old and an AJJ rookie card. Jackson couldn’t have been nicer. Talked to my son about UConn and basketball. Asked his name. Told him “I’ll see you on the court someday”. Great experience overall.

Also, continues the trend (in my limited experiences) where all UConn players have been tremendously gracious in the interactions we’ve had with them “away from Storrs” (AJJ, Spencer, Calcaterra, Karaban, etc). Truly a testament to Hurley and his “culture”. Always proud to be a UConn alum when we see these guys.

The box the Castle Flight Club card was in was a particularly crazy box. In addition to the Flight Club card (odds 1:16 boxes), also got a 1/1 autograph Superfractor (1:224 boxes...unfortunately of Aaron Bradshaw), a red dual autograph card (1:33, some MSU teammates), and a Paige base card to boot.

When I saw the border of the superfractor, thoughts started racing through my head, but then saw it was Aaron Bradshow and was like "welp". Though I guess it's probably still worth north of $100 to someone. Definitely hasn't lived up to the 5-star rating he had coming out of HS.

Fantastic! I love ripping but I have TERRIBLE luck, so it’s much more economical to me to buy singles.

Yeah, singles are the way to go....basically will never get dusted (well, unless you get Wander Franco'd ) like can easily happen ripping packs. Though the allure of hitting "the big one" draws so many people in.

So something only card collectors would remotely care about, but it seems Castle might be Topps/Fanatics only for autographs. Don't see him having any autos in any of the upcoming Panini releases (NBA Hoops, Prizm Draft picks etc). Do see Spencer, Clingan, and Newton having autos though.

Dang that’s annoying, those unlicensed photoshop Topps cards usually look pretty lame.

Hawkins was clearly on that same sort of deal but happy at least Clingan will have autos on 100s of cards.

I’ll see you guys on eBay battling for $3 autos of Spencer and Newton, may the best Husky fan win!

Yeah, the NBA trading card scene is in a weird place right now. Topps releasing sets but unlicensed...but they also have exclusive deals with several players (headlined by Wemby), which is one reason Wemby may not ever have a fully licensed autograph rookie card (either unlicensed Topps autograph or licensed non-auto Panini). Meanwhile other players have exclusive deals with Panini, so even when Topps gets the license later this year, there will be no autograph cards of those players. And a legend like Jordan remains Upper Deck-only, so he's pretty much excluded from all modern releases.

And I'm not even sure about the WNBA license and if Topps will get that as well in addition to the NBA license, but Bueckers and Clark are Panini-only, so no Topps autograph cards for them either.

I'll keep happily collecting UConn cards though, even though college cards are shunned by a segment of the card collecting hobby. No matter what pro team players sign with, they'll be a Husky forever!
