UCONN TO THE ACC (extremely misleading)

Over the weekend, I ran into a local NC man at a carwash. I've seen him there before and he's said the same thing to me. I was wearing a uconn pullover, and he said UCONN huh? I said yes sir!! He was wearing a Wake Forest pullover. He said again, he knows a prominent donor on the board of trustees at Wake, and UCONN is wanted in the ACC, and the announcment could come some point this year. I said, yeah right, he said no really. There are a lot of schools that want UCONN and that the ones that have been blocking them will not be able to this time. I don't care where we go, as long as its out of this conference.

Not Happening. ACC took ND for football. That ended our ACC dream. Best hope is B12 goes to 12.

.-.
I understand it's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, but living in NC it seems that every Duke/UNC/Wake fan I've talked to about it has expressed that they don't understand why UConn isn't in the ACC and think they're a perfect fit... Middling football and top quality basketball w/ high academics. Hopefully car wash guy is right.

RU? BC?

Interesting:

I'd say
Wake
Vandy
BC
Rutgers
Northwestern
Minnesota
Colorado
Washington State

Others?

It's still WF for me. The other schools have at least one thing going for them to add some level of value to their conference.

Vandy - hoops is decent, baseball usually good
BC - hockey, competitive football in most seasons
RU - cable boxes, entertaining PR fahq ups on semi monthly basis
NW - they might be #2 on the most irrelevant list...but willing to slide WF over them because of Chicago market
Minn - hockey, competitive football in most seasons
Colorado - legal weed
WSU - much more slim pickings out west than in east (and especially North Carolina!)

There are a few B12 and PAC schools that are mostly irrelevant but also slide behind WF due to the slim pickings out west factor. They at least deliver their core markets. WF is in the same friggin' market as Duke, UNC, NCState, and some might argue East Carolina. I'd be shocked if they delivered more than 5% of it.

Wake Forest has had historically better basketball than Vandy. Tim Duncan and Chris Paul are a better duo than any other school can claim in the pros except maybe UCLA (KAJ and pick another top player), UNC (Jordan but no clear 2) and Houston (Hakeem/ Clyde/Hayes). Kentucky may pass them soon (Davis and another), but haven't yet.

It's crazy how that small school had probably the best power forward of all time, and one of the best PGs of all time.

That is the best lead we have had on a new conference in months. Cut the guy some slack.

I also think Dook will have no problem with us in the ACC- it's BC and possibly Quse (who no one will ever listen to again)- so I think if there was a ground swell in favor of it is has a better chance now then in the past.

I think teams like Pitt (scum) and Quse should welcome having a real rivalry in the ACC- Dook -UNC ect could care less about Quse and most likely never will- we on the other hand will always dislike each other- thats good for the conference and good for the fans.

We have no issues- we have great coaches- great academics (might make up for the inclusion of Lville. Makes sense to me sign me up.

On a side note I was in Kroger the other day and this dude a met told me that a Victoria Secret model was checking me out in the parking lot- I have been camped out here for three days and will keep the Boneyard informed of my progress.

It would have to be Jordan/Worthy, right?

Regionally, Wake does okay generating support in the Winston-Salem/Greensboro area. They have a lot of rich $$$ alumni. I drove up to the Wake v Duke game with a buddy in Winston-Salem this past year and the parking lot was like a valet at a Ritz-Carlton. Wake has had some great players such as Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, Jeff Teague, etc come through, and it seems they will be more of a factor seemingly based on their recruits (football and basketball) and the job Danny Manning will do.

Right. That's what I was thinking. But it's hard to get a sense of how truly great he was since he was almost always the 3rd best player on his team. Now his team was freaking great, but I don't think he's as truly great for his position as Chris Paul is. Worthy was never the best small forward in the league. Paul has been the best PG in the league for a while.

Then again, Worthy was a better post-season performer.

Good luck, but it might freak her out if she catches you pitching a tent.

Oh how I would love Uconn to the ACC. I live within about 2 hours of Duke, UNC, Wake and State. I doubt it will happen though, I got my hopes up 2 years ago when Louisville stole our spot. Won't get my hopes up again.

Honestly...none of us were there and can discount what he was told. Also, the guy supposedly said that the schools that blocked us previously won't be able too this time around. How would the guy know that were blocked by certain schools unless he had knowledge of it? I seriously doubt a guy in NC that works at a car wash is really interested in the long-term look back of how this all went down. It seems like he saw a guy wearing UConn stuff and let him know what he knew. If it's true, great, if not, then it's not. No reason to jump down the guys throat though. I'd rather read this than the opening poster keep it quiet.

.-.
Serious question...Besides BC, Cuse, FSU, Clemson, Miami, What were the other schools to block us from the ACC the time they took Louisville?

I agree, if I was around town here with my Uconn shirt on and someone told me this info, I would relay it. Doesn't mean any of it true.

I think people jumped down his throat because the thread title said "UCONN TO THE ACC". That is a horrendous thread title and anybody who posts something like that deserves everything he gets.

Nothing wrong with the post; everybody can and did take it with a few truckloads of salt.

Wait, so this time the car wash guy said "no really"?

That is definitely money in the bank.
I hope he offered to polish something of his guy's if he could help get us into the AAC. (Edited: ACC.......It's easy to confuse them.....)

.-.
This guy could really be anyone (connected or not so much) that he talked to. It does seem worthwhile that the guy at least seemed familiar with the situation of football schools blocking us out originally. Though it has no real base, it was worth sharing.
PS Just because he talked to him AT a car wash doesn't mean the guy WORKS there.

Some people know more than others about things. With recruiting we see that with Zionn and Fishy for instance. The OP comes aboard and relays a chance encounter with someone he's seen a few times at a car wash. He messes up the title. Is he an attention grabber? Doubt it based on the frequency of his posts.

More likely he didn't realize his mistake with the original title. A simple pointing out of his error was the only thing necessary. Heads up to 99 for straightening things out.

Big question I want to know is what type of car was he washing? Not always an indicator but if he had a beat up car, low end model and it was quite old then the source might be less credible.

Anyways crazier things have happened to us UConn fans so who knows if any of this is credible or not. My guess is UConn is heading to the B!G but not before the ACC and the B!G make overtures. As the wise person says we won't know for twenty minutes. We are DOOOOMED!!!!!

Which one? http://www.wfu.edu/administration/trustees/

Hey we have over 150 pages of posts on the CR board hanging on every tweet from the Dude of WV and some guy named Flugar. So, why can we have a few pages discussing a convo with "guy at a car wash?"

Well we know Duke probably doesn't want us
Actually ,it's the NC schools plus UVA, and VT , that want us the most.
Acedemically they would view us as very desirable.
Another state flag ship ,especially adjacent to NYC is our biggest selling point

FSU, Clemson, Louisville, and Pitt probably are pretty neutral
There really is only is Cinn and Us
The ACC doesn't want another Fla school , and Tobacco Road won't accept Memphis .
Louisville was at desperate times.
Cuse and BC , I see as the biggest challenge.
But the realality is those two have the most to gain from us .

I would certainly prefer the B1G ,but if the ACC calls we're in no position to refuse

If UConn football has some success next year we become exponetially valuable.

I believe it was just those, obviously FSU and Clemson have serious swinging power
