Getting thrown out attempting to steal is a bit different than getting thrown out on the bases whether on a hit or getting picked off. It may be the same result, but I wouldn't call it bad base running.
Cate for not allowing a run has not been sharp. Has been in trouble several innings now....he is really laboring in these last couple innings meaning that we could turn it over to what has been a shaky pen all season..
Cate throws away a pick off attempt at 2B. Runners on 1B and 3B with 1 out. Cate gets another out through a strikeout. Gets another strikeout to end the inning tied at 2. Cate is up to 100 pitches, I would say it is time for him to come out.
We are what Steven A Smith calls the Dallas Cowboys "An accident waiting to happen". Can't keep throwing games away. Keep saying it is early in the season, but this is what keeps you home in June. It is simple things. Why are you trying to pick a guy off second. There are 2 outs, go after the hitter. Then 2 out walks, stolen base and a single later is another run. How many guys did I see us have thrown out trying to steal just to see the next guy get a hit. Killing themselves right now.
Tim Cate was a bit shaky tonight, but he did give UConn my badly lamented quality start. However, they either need to start scoring runs, or cut out the ugly play in the field. Both would be nice, but one will do.
