This is the perfect opportunity to see what you have in the bullpen outside of the 3-4 guys Penders tends to use. Penders is probably using this stint with Kersten as a “bullpen” day but I think it’s a waste not to see what else is in the ‘pen

UConn picks up 3 more runs in the top of the 8th, making it 16-2. Rossomando coming in to pitch the bottom of the 8th. I'm now thinking Colby Dunlop pitches Monday.

Ronnie has had his issues with UConn but Colby has not shown me anything to get the nod over Ronnie. It does look like that is how it will play out though

What did Chris Jones say about Randy Polonia? Not back until end of March or beginning of April? Didn't quite catch it completely.

UConn picks up another run to make it 17-2. Joe Simeone to pitch the bottom of the 9th.

I'm thinking they need to find a way to get Phillips bat in the lineup everyday. Kid can hit.

Phillips could begin to see more time at Dan Hurley or 1B. At 1B he could spell Winkel against lefty pitchers. Of course, UConn has yet to face a lefty starter. At Dan Hurley, Phillips would take time from Fedko there. Fedko could move to 3B or 2B as Penders gains more confidence of his ability in the field. Neither Moriarty or Woodworth have not yet hit much this year, so it that continues it could be a possibility as well.

Andy Hague was one of my favorite kids before he became a Husky and he will be far after he leaves Storrs. He approached this interview the same way he approaches everything...with a smile on his face. He’s the same person on and off the field. He will become a fan favorite by the time his career is done.

Huskies Post Season-High 17 Runs at The Citadel

Notes

  • The Huskies scored 17 runs in a game for the first time since March 11, 2016. The Huskies defeated William & Mary in Northridge, Calif. 18-1.
  • The Huskies recorded numerous career-highs: Troy Stefanski (four RBIs), Mike Woodworth (first extra-base hit), Andy Hague (first hit), Thad Phillips (three hits), Joe Simeone (first strikeout), Christian Fedko (three RBIs), Anthony Nucerino (first hit, RBI, extra-base hit).
  • The Huskies utilized all 14-position players that were available, in the contest.

This is Isaac Feldstein's third game at Dan Hurley in the last two weekends. I hope his knee is ok, as it definitely affected his hitting last season. Fedko gets another infield start, with Woodworth showing more of his defensive versatility getting an outfield start.

Why is our offense so much better on Saturday than Sunday? Damn random variance...

Bottom 3rd, Gardner becomes the latest Husky pitcher to pick off a runner. Helps that he didn't throw it away. No score going to the top of the 4th.

Bottom 4th, Gardner suddenly having control issues, walking the first two batters.

Bottom 4th, the Citadel scores a run to make it 1-0. Considering Gardner's wildness in that inning, it could have been a lot worse for UConn. Gardner was helped out by some nice plays by the UConn defense.
