UConn @ The Citadel (Fri. 3/9 @6p, Sat. 3/10@2p, Sun. 3/11@1p & Mon. 3/12 was canceled)

I was a bit surprised with the lineup today. Since he hasn't been hitting, Woodworth dropping to the bottom of the order is ok with me. Surprised with the untested Nucerino at the top of the lineup. Good to see him come through with an RBI single in that 2nd inning.

The thing I’m looking for for the rest of the game is wether the offense keeps their foot on the pedal. Too many times this year they fail to keep it going after a big inning

Or the offense stalls out after a small inning. Either way, lately UConn hasn't been scoring too many runs.

Bottom 2nd, Feole walks the bases loaded. He gets out of the inning unscathed. 5-0 UConn.

.-.
Bottom 4th, the first two batters get on against Feole, then he retires the side. 5-0 UConn. Feole is up to 74 pitches.

Solo homer for Feldstein in the top of the 5th makes it 6-0 UConn

Bottom 5th, the Citadel picks up a run to make it 6-1. Feole ends the inning with 97 pitches. Maybe one more inning for him.

Phillips with a 1 out double.

It'd be great if we can save PJ for the next 3 games, but we are gonna need more insurance runs for that...even up by 5.

.-.
Toppa hit with the bases loaded brings in 2 more runs to make it 10-1.

.-.
2 out in the 6th, 2 runners on against Feole, Jeff Kersten coming in to pitch.

This makes no sense. Mason threw 20 pitches he didn’t need to, 115 total. Now Kersten who is expected to be the Monday starter is in. You’re up 12 runs. Throw a freshman or expected low usage sophomore. Even if the give up 4-5 runs in 3 innings you’re up by 7-8 runs. This is why UConn and Penders has a stigma of overusing pitchers

I wonder if Kersten is going to stay in a relief role, with perhaps Rossomando and Dunlop getting the Monday and Tuesday starts. Still, in my mind a 12 run lead is a good time to get some other lesser used pitchers some playing time.

Haven’t been able to follow WHUS stream that much today... did Chris Jones report this?

Chris Jones hasn't been on the stream until just now, so can't answer that question. Kersten starting midweek games is just something that we have assumed up until now.

This is my assumption. It’d be bad coaching to not start the 4th best pitcher on the team (excluding PJ). The only thing that makes sense bringing Kersten in, is if Kersten will be the Tuesday starter and Ronnie is Monday

Kersten stays in for the bottom of the 7th. Rossomando is now warming up.

Just caught Jones saying Kersten likely Tuesday starter...

The Citadel picks up a run in the bottom of the 7th. Chris Jones saying this is the perfect situation to get lesser used pitchers some game time, and I agree.
