UConn Tenn thoughts

While I am predicting a 25+ point UConn win, If you consider a start like UConn made against Xavier with 10 straight missed 3's, with Tenn starting hot, it could be a close game. Unlikely since UConn has such deep talent, but don't want to have to rely on any player making 10 3's.
The Huskies didn’t need Allie’s threes

Either UCONN will end up beating Tennessee by 20+ Points on Sunday "OR" beware of a recently wounded angry bear.
Actually it is a Hound Dog. Originally most resembling a Blue Tick Hound. Today I learned that. Darn strange it took so long.

I think Blanca has become the player Geno has leaned on when the team is out of sorts and for good reason.........without her, who's going to be that difference maker? I'd say Heckel but she's not the dominant player that Blanca is, especially against bigger and more athletic teams like Tennessee......let's hope UConn doesn't need an "intervention" in this game.....
Offensively, I think Heckel's strength is getting the shooters good lucks that aren't naturally occurring in the normal flow of the offense. So her contribution is dependent on the other player knocking down the shots.

Whereas Blanca thrives offensively on the chaos she helps cause on defense and then creating her own shots. So yes, a more direct relationship and perhaps more reliable.

Heckel's approach has its advantages, though. Heckel helping to get Allie started in the last game carried over when Ash and Azzi starter finding an open Allie. The same works with Ash and Azzi making their shots as they also seem more proficient after they make an initial shot -- so it can "right" the whole team a bit and continue to pay dividends when KK re-enters the game.

Sam had a house in Hartford. I think he was talking about UConn statistics

So tonite Miss St @ Tenn on SEC + if you want to get a look. UConn is favored by 24+. I dont think we have a problem. Tenn hasnt seen a defense like UConn and imo wont be prepared for it. No team can prepare for it. I am very confident UConn wins this game and wins it big barring any key foul trouble and injuries. I expect Serah and Blanca to be back as I believe Geno kept them out of the Xavier game for precautionary reasons. I dont see Tenn scoring 60 pts in this game and I dont see Tenn keeping UConn from scoring under 70pts in this game. If Tenn is sloppy, making TOs and UConn stealing the ball this game will be over in the first half. I expect everybody to step up in this game.

UConn needs to get healthy. This is a game on why the top players come to UConn. UConn will be focused and their execution on both sides of the ball will shine. UConn plays like the ultimate team.
I just arrived in Hartford for tomorrow's game. Are you going? Are any other BYers?

All true, I love Heckel's game, but I assume this will be a very physical battle where turnovers and control of the boards may make the difference and under those circumstances, I think Blanca's absence will be a major loss.....

I will be there. I'd be happy to but a central NJ fan a diet coke, or a more mature refreshment if you prefer. 😊

Wow they have Diet Coke in central NJ? Let's meet with any other BYers who want to at some spot at halftime.

I believe I'm in section 215, 1 row above the walkway. The offer still stands. Hope to get there before the shirts run out. Bottoms up, Jersey.

This is an Azzi game.
Name me a game that isn't. But I know what you mean. Just hope she's back on her whole game. Curious to see what Allie does after her explosion.

Agreed. After the Notre Dame game, I am thinking that KK is saving her best efforts for the "big games." Plus Ash seems to be finding herself a bit more of late (with Geno pushing the buttons). So it is likely a game for them.

It would nice to see both K9 an Allie use their momentum from Xavier and carry it over to a game against a superior opponent though. I think it would be a big step for both of them (especially Allie).

It’s Ramadan so I hope Jana stores some fuel for this game smack in the middle of the day.

I don't think it really matters this year about the "number 1 overall seed"....

Uconn is going to get it anyways... But whether they do or not, I still see them going undefeated and winning number 13....

Uconn just has too many weapons. Now Allie is a HUGE weapon too. This might be one of the best Uconn teams I have ever seen...

The Stewart/Jefferson teams, Bird/Diana and the Renee/Tina/Maya teams were incredible. But this team might be just as deep....

I count at least 3 first team All Americans on this team... Strong and Azzi for sure and Blanco eventually.

Even KK might make third team.

I was stunned by TN’s performance yesterday against MS St. While MS St deserves credit for taking it to the LV’s, TN appeared to be just going through the motions, lacking energy and motivation.

Obviously, if the LV’s play like that in Hartford on Sunday, the Huskies will lay one serious beat down on them. The 1st qtr is key. TN needs to get into the game early. If UConn puts on one of their 1st qtr clinics on how to play basketball it will be over early.
How'd you like heading to the bench every 2-3 minutes? My bet she loses this team before SEC tournament time and the portal will beckon.

I'm not too worried about Blanca's availability although I did moderate my prognostication a little. As far as motivation is concerned, who was the poster that said UConn is every other team's super bowl? Tennessee is going to the super bowl. Crazy things can happen in the super bowl.
Wish we had the Gampel students for this one.

Huh? Hartford also has a large student section behind the basket and buses that will take the students. They will absolutely be there tomorrow.
Game was close to a sellout. Last I heard only 400ish left. PBA holds 16,294. Should be a great atmosphere.

I think that both Sarah and Azzi play over 30 minutes if not sick and they both score over 29 points. UConn had to much debt and wins by 20.

I’m in section 217

The early afternoon games on a weekend at PeoplesBank always have an interesting crowd, and this one will most certainly be packed. Some students make the trip over from Storrs. They’ll be a little hungover from Friday night, so it’ll take them a little time to raise the noise. There will be a bunch of typical UConn fans, old folks like you and me, who aren’t quite as energetic as we used to be.

Finally, there will be thousands of young kids, mostly girls. Some will come with their parents and some will come with their youth basketball league by the bus load. All of them will be screaming at the top of their lungs for the entire game like they were at a rock concert watching their favorite rockstars, which is sort of what they will be doing.

UConn - Tennessee makes me anxious like no other game. It’s the only game from last season that I never watched. We were traveling during the game and I just couldn’t bring myself to watch the replay. I’m optimistic and hopeful, but I also have a giant knot in my stomach. It’s the result of years of the rivalry and the memory of coach Summitt. It doesn’t matter how much things have changed, it still feels the same and it always will.

Sorry to jump your thread…but does anyone know of a bar/ restaurant that will be open before the game Sunday? I’ve had a couple of recommendations but one opens at 11:30 and the other doesn’t answer at all.
Thank you in advance!
Brown bag tailgate? You don’t even have to bring a cooler! 🤣
