A quick look at the Cape Cod Player Search function currently shows the following UConn players playing on the Cape for the 2024 summer season. Of course, this listing is subject to change both in additions and deletions as we get closer to the summer ball season.

Futures League starts play this weekend.

In the Futures League, games start tonight. Norwich plays at New Britain tonight.

I did a player search for the upcoming Futures League 2024 season. Here is a list of UConn players (which includes incoming freshmen) currently slated to play summer ball in the Futures League. Obviously, this list is subject to change, there are sure to be both additions and delations to this list as the season progresses.

As I have mentioned in the past, my wife and I have season tickets to Norwich Sea Unicorns and their home games. So I always look forward to any UConn players who might end up playing in a particular game.

By the way, last season a bunch of New Britain games were on television, being carried by a sister station of channel 3 in Hartford. Hoping that will happen again this season. Last season Randy Brochu did the play by play of these games.

Futures League

Gionvanni Conte - Norwich
Connor Lane - Norwich
Brett Davino - New Britain
Gabriel Tirado - New Britain

I was part of a group of interns who helped produce the tv broadcasts and run the social media accounts for New Britain in 2022. I haven’t heard anything yet about the games being televised this year, but I hope they will be because the Futures League is fun. And Randy Brochu is one of the best there is, working in the booth with him for a summer was a fantastic experience. He is a wealth of sports knowledge and calls a great game.

As a side note, really excited to see Gabriel Tirado with New Britain this year. My brother and I both played with/against him growing up in Little League, he was always one of the best hitters in town and it was clear from a young age that he was going to be able to play at a high level in college and beyond.

Conte was redshirted this past season with UConn.

Norwich had a 3-1 victory today. Giovanni Conte pitched in the 9th inning, and retired the side in order picking up 1 strikeout, and got the save.

Futures League game this afternoon, New Britain played at Norwich, an 11am start. Incoming UConn freshman Gabriel Tirado started at catcher for New Britain, which was a bit of a surprise to me as I didn't think incoming freshmen could play in these games until they finished high school, but I guess I was wrong about that. Guess they can play after they finish playing baseball in high school. Tirado had a double and a walk in his at bats today.

I just did another quick look last night at the Cape Cod League Player Search function for the 2024 summer season. Currently there is now only 1 UConn player listed as going to be playing on the Cape this summer.

Gabe Van Emon - Chatham

Jude Abbadessa and Ryan Daniels are both not listed on the Player Search function. Guessing that due to their injuries that they had during the spring season with UConn that they will not be able to play summer ball.

I've mentioned this before, but players do come and go from all the leagues during the summer ball season, leaving clubs at some point during the season, and also joining teams during the course of the summer season. We'll see if some other UConn players end up playing on the Cape this summer.

I just looked at the NECBL Player Search function for the 2024 summer season, the league started its season recently. Here are the UConn players listed as going to be playing in the NECBL this summer. Not all of them are listed yet on team rosters, so they may be joining those teams sometime during the season.

Alex Mach - Danbury
Charlie West - Danbury
Sean Finn - Keene
Joe Carrea - Keene
Devin Wolff - Mystic
Tyler Minick - Mystic
Drew Kron - Mystic
Tom Galusha - Mystic
Tom Turner - Ocean State
Niki Brini - Newport
Tom Ellisen - Sanford

Beau Root - Vermont - His school is listed as UConn, he has been playing for Middlebury College for the last few years. Looks like he is a grad transfer.

Also, former UConn baseball pitcher Mason Feole is the pitching coach at Ocean State.

A number of UConn players can usually be found playing summer ball in the Futures League, the NECBL, and the Cape Cod League, so it is always a fun task to check team rosters in those leagues for UConn players.

There are plenty of other summer college leagues around the country, so it is always possible that UConn players can be found in other leagues as well. You just have to do plenty of searching sometimes to find UConn players in those other summer leagues, but they do turn up from time to time.

Another UConn player is now on the Norwich roster. Mike Oates, a freshman catcher who did not play this spring for UConn due to injury, so he got redshirted.

Hope he sticks. I'll go to a few A's games this year (still can't call them the Anglers).

Giovanni Conte did not pitch in his freshman season at UConn, but in summer ball he has gotten off to a terrific start to the season for the Norwich Sea Unicorns of the Futures League. In the game tonight at Norwich, Conte pitched the last 1.1 innings and got the save as Norwich got a 3-0 win. Conte got the final out in the 8th inning, then he gave up a leadoff single in the 9th inning, and then struck out the next 3 batters. He looked good, I was at the game.

So far this summer season Conte has so far appeared in 6 games, pitching 10.1 innings. He has given up 3 hits and 1 walk in these games so far. He has 13 strikeouts and has given up no runs in these relief appearances, and now has 2 saves and 2 wins.

By the way, incoming UConn freshman Connor Lane started the game for Norwich as the catcher.
