Doesn't make too much sense, but whatever. Not sure how the #19 team in the country can be looked at as a 7 seed, particularly with wins over Florida, Memphis x2, and Cincinnati. Oh, and did I mention that the AAC is the best conference this year? Another week, another joke from Lunardi.

How is Ville 2 seed lines above Uconn? I know they beat us, but our overall profile is better than them. Same with Kentucky.

Lunardi is a bald turd. Kansas moves up to a 1 seed after losing to Oklahoma State?

Kentucky at #6 is hanging on by the thread of their brand name. Perhaps cash plays a role in this as well. Any other school would be a bubble team in the same situation.

OSU or UK ahead of us on the S-Curve is laughable.

Also, notice how, for the 3rd Bracketology in a row, we're a 7 seed playing a 2 seed in a virtual road game. This time it's vs. Cuse in Buffalo (previously vs. Duke in Raleigh, before that vs. Wisconsin in Milwaukee). I'll say it again: we absolutely have to get off the 7 line -- and frankly, we should be off of it already.

Kentucky has 1 top 25 win this year and it was against Louisville in December. They have 8 losses including defeats to Arkansas, LSU, Arkansas yet again, and LSU. Oh, and did I mention it took them overtime to beat LSU the second time? They have been playing awful basketball lately, and for them to be a 6 seed ahead of us is simply unfair.

I know the rankings aren't the end all be all, but how can you be ranked 19, and be a 7 seed?

That would imply were ranked 24-28?

Doesn't make sense.

Exactly where our RPI is - 26.

Right. The polls mean little.

But so does the RPI, in a sense. What matters is our record against teams in the Top 25 (2-1), Top 50 (4-5), and Top 100 (9-5). Those number compare pretty favorably, especially the wins against Top 25 RPI teams, to a number of other teams out there.

I get that when you are Lunardi, or anybody else who does this sort of thing, you're never going to satisfy everybody. But there is a s*** load of inconsistency in there. UConn has an RPI of 26, which would correspond with their seeding. Fine. But then why is Iowa a six seed with an RPI of 43? Why is Louisville a five seed with an RPI of 31 and a decidedly worse resume than us? Why is Michigan State 13th on the S-curve and 23rd in the RPI? I could go on.

I'm not a fan of RPI, but if you're going to use it, at least be consistent. UMass is 2-0 against the top 25, 5-2 against the top 50, and 12-4 against the top 100. Their overall RPI is 13, yet they're a seven seed. It just doesn't make sense.

When it comes to bracket projections, it is pretty well known that Lunardi is not very good at all (http://www.bracketmatrix.com/rankings.html). He and ESPN may tout his 96% accuracy rate or whatever it is, but that number only reflects predicting what teams get in, which isn't as hard as you think because there are only really 8-12 true bubble teams every year. That "accuracy rate" does not take into account correctly predicting seed, which is the the real challenge. Thus, if he predicts UConn as a 7 seed in the East, but they really end up as a 5 seed in the West, he gives himself full credit for correctly predicting UConn...

Check out http://www.bracketmatrix.com if you want composite seeding which takes into account various sites. The updates are slow, but this is about the the time of year they start to pick up.

I think a six seed is realistic - a bump up one line or a bump down one line is not outrageous, so no problem with a seven seed.

For the 10 millionth time the AP poll means zero for seeding.
Well not exactly. I've read a lot of the analysts who say the AP Poll is a better indicator of a team's seeding than the RPI. The committee uses the RPI to compare who each team played and who each team beat but supposedly they don't use it for seedings. We'll see.

I know we're 2 weeks away, but that is a scary match-up.

Louisville is confusing. I heard a commentator say they haven't beaten one Top 25 team yet this season. Of course they have a couple chances coming up this week. So much of it is where you start out, reputation, and that you don't lose a bunch of games In a row.....except if you are UK or Michigan state then you get to stay in the Top 25 the whole year no matter what

They beat Cincy last week, I believe that was their first. Of course it also depends on when you play them, as they have beaten both us and SMU, which are now top 20 teams but weren't when they played.
