Compared to the rest of the games UConn has played so far this season, this game is flying, as it is now in the 7th inning after about an hour and a half.

Haus is warming in the pen.
 
Bottom 7th, Casparius still on the mound to start the inning. With 2 out after a single and a walk, Kenny Haus coming in to pitch. An infield single loads the bases, a strikeout gets Haus out of the jam. 6-4 UConn.

Bottom 8th, Haus with a scoreless inning after Devenney throws out a runner trying to steal 2nd. 6-4 UConn.

Top 9th, Wurster warming in the pen. Chris Winkel with a one out double, but is stranded on base. 6-4 UConn.
 
A leadoff single, a wild pitch moves the runner to 2nd, then a fly out for the first out. Wurster coming in to pitch. Stock a defensive replacement in left field.

Most interesting thing in this interview to me was Coach Penders talking about Saturday starter Joe Simeone. Penders said he got a chance to watch Simeone's bullpen pre start session yesterday. Said Simeone's stuff is really electric in the bullpen. If he allows himself to breathe and relax while pitching in an actual game, he could get very good results. He's too good to have the results he's had in games this year. His slider has been great in rehearsal so to speak, but he needs to bring it with him when the curtain goes up on the actual game. Well, all I can say is, we're waiting.

That and the fact that Penders wants Ben Casparius to stop shaking off Coach Mac’s pitch calls to make it easier on himself.

Good friday win, but it really should have been a 6-0 win.

The first run was created on what should have been ruled an error on Chris Winkel plus two wild pitches. The other three were the result of a bad sequence where Casparius went from 0-2 on SJUs Nate Thomas and failing to put him away after shaking off coach Mac multiple times on multiple pitches. Thomas then put the ball in play, Kyler misplays it and three runs come in.

One other thing Coach Penders mentioned during the post game interview was how UConn hasn't been able to get any separation from their opponents in games this season. Of course, this is hard to do when you end up losing half your games to the tough opponents UConn has played so far this season. Aside from that, the real importance to me in getting some separation in games is allowing less experienced guys who are lower on the bullpen totem pole to be able to come into games and be able to get their feet on the mound without it necessarily being a high stress situation with the game on the line. In this way a pitcher is able to get their feet wet and possibly enjoy some success in a less pressurized situation before graduating to tougher assignments, so to speak.
 
Hope TC is ok. See he is not in the lineup and in his short time did himself well out there whether in left, center or at the dish.
