Those are the innings that frustrate penders. Bases loaded one out and they manage a sac fly. Need to start stringing together hits in those situations not just a sac fly and allowing them to keep lead.

At least UConn got the sac fly. Like I said in the earlier post, the three hitters in the batting order after Stock are really having problems right now even getting on base, let alone getting any hits.

Just as soon as I write that, No. 9 hitter Chris Brown comes up with a one out double in the top of the 5th. After a sac bunt moving Brown to 3B, with 2 out, Kyler Fedko is intentionally walked and steals 2B. However, they are stranded.

Bottom 5th, Joe Simeone still on the mound. To me, getting through the 5th for him would be a nice accomplishment. Pat Gallagher warming in the pen.

So much for that, Simeone issues a lead off walk, Gallagher coming in to pitch.

First batter Gallagher faces comes up with a triple to drive in a run. 3-1 Hawks with no out. Fielders choice makes it 4-1 Hawks with a runner at 1B and no out. Devenney throws out the runner trying to steal. This is followed by a walk and a single. Randy Polonia coming in to pitch.

This team is lost right now, plain and simple. Doesn't help when it seems week in and week out our pitchers get squeezed while Devenney gets punched out on a pitch a foot off the plate.

A walk followed by a bases loaded sac fly makes it 5-1. Then UConn has a couple infield misplays, followed by a single to make 8-1. Roof is really coming down on this one.

Bottom 6th, Polonia still on the mound, comes up with a 1-2-3 inning. It will be interesting to see who pitches after Randy.

By the way, Kevin Ferrer previously pinch hit for Chris Winkel in the top of the inning. Wondering if Chris Winkel might not be making as many starts in the future.

Chris Jones says T.C. Simmons out for three to four weeks with bruised ribs.

Hope TC is ok. See he is not in the lineup and in his short time did himself well out there whether in left, center or at the dish.
TC out 3-4 weeks w/ bruised ribs per CJ just now.

UConn offense stays stone quiet in the 6th and 7th innings. Polonia still on the mound for the bottom of the 7th. Sam Favieri warming in the pen.

Now we need a Justin Willis update. Also, an update on when Pat Winkel will be able to catch again, as that will improve the offense some with Pat out of the the D.H. spot and back behind the plate.

Bottom 7th, with 2 out and runners at 2nd and 3rd, Sam Favieri coming out of the bullpen to pitch. Favieri throws one pitch to get a ground out to end the inning. 8-1 Hawks.

Colby Dunlop warming in the pen.

Bottom 8th, 8-5 Hawks, Favieri starts the inning on the mound for the Huskies.

A leadoff double off the glove of Brown at 3B, followed by a fly out for the first out. Andrew Marrero takes the mound for UConn.

A couple of shoddy defensive plays with Bushling at the center of it make it 9-5 for the Hawks. As Chris Jones says, Marrero should be out of the inning with no runs coming in.

You want a strong defense up the middle. You could easily make the argument the two worst defensive players on this team reside at second and short

I've been suggesting that either Hague or Padilla get a chance at SS, with Bushling moving to 3B. Ever since last season I've had the idea that Bushling is better off at 3B. Chris Jones has mentioned the idea of Bushling getting a chance at 3B twice this game so far, I find that interesting.

The coaches love to compare Bushling to Woodworth, but he is simply not in the same class defensively.

9-5 Hawks going to the top of the 9th.

UConn has another threat going in the top of the 9th. A Kyler Fedko double (fourth hit of the game for him) has runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. A ground out scores a run to make it 9-6. A two out walk to the other Fedko and an intentional walk to Crawford loads the bases.

We need to take up a boneyard donation to get kyler fedko a helmet that fits. That poor thing can’t even stay on when he swings forget when he sprints..

Bushling is no where near Woody in any category- I would give Hague the job and have Bushling as a late game offensive replacement, if need be. Brown and Langer have 3rd covered well in my opinion.

Erik Stock single brings in two runs. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. 9-8.

Korey Morton in for Crawford as a pinch runner. One of the fastest runners UConn baseball has had.

I wonder where UConn sits in fielding efficiency in D1. Have to be near the bottom
