UConn @ St John for 3 (Fri. 3/16@3p, Sat. 3/17@1p & Sun. 3/18@1p)

With 2 runners on and 2 out in the 5th, Gardner comes out and Rossomando enters the game.

  • The bottom falls out in the 4th or 5th every start for Gardner. Little concerning that we can't seem to get more out of him.

Rossomando gets a ground ball out to end the 5th inning with St. John's up 1-0. Ronnie threw only 1 pitch. Now that's efficient.

Good outing by Gardner. I'll take 4-5 solid innings from him every day of the week.

Big at bat by Feldstein! All 4 people up to the plate so far this inning have had great at bats.

RBI ground out by Phillips makes it 3-1 for UConn. And I agree with Chris Jones, Phillips is indeed making a push for more playing time.

Phillips / Winkel / Tulane transfer sounds rather beastly as a catcher rotation next year. I wonder if one will shift positions?

I follow the team from afar but am not as tuned in as others...any chance Winkel passes up UConn and goes pro? I know he's pretty well regarded nationally.

It is very possible, sadly. I will root for him regardless of his choice.

Drat, Fedko left 3B too early on a potential sac fly, wiping out a run. 3-1 UConn going to the bottom of the 7th. Rossomando still in for the bottom of the 7th.

WTF Left early on the tag from third never gets called. Must have been obvious. Stupid.

Just getting ready to post how our batters have come up huge today with runners on third and less than 2 outs and what does Fedko do, leaves early. Sounds like it was hit plenty deep. Base running blunders continue to hurt us.

UConn goes down quickly in the top of the 8th. Jake Wallace coming in to pitch the bottom of the inning, with Poulin starting to warm up.

.-.
1 hit, 2 strikeouts for Wallace as he retires the side in the bottom of the 8th.

Outside chance we are ranked next week in at least 1 poll, even though I'd say we need another strong week to earn it. Road wins at CCU, GT, St. Johns x2, SELA x2, and Georgia State will give the pollsters something to think about.

Resume building series....Georgia Tech, Coastal Carolina, and St John's

Edit: Let's not forget SELA.

After last season and his poor performance in the Cape Cod League over the summer, I was a bit worried that Rossomando might be taking the Andrew Zapata path to pitching irrelevancy. Beginning to look like Ronnie has turned away from that journey. Instead, he might be turning into a big cog of this bullpen.

Assuming UConn keeps on doing what they need to do, these road wins will also give the NCAA tourney selection committee something to think about.
