Kats attempt to stop unraveling against UConn

Daily Campus: Huskies return to Texas to take on Sam Houston

UConn Game Notes for SHS:
History vs. Sam Houston State... The only meeting between these two programs came in 2013 when the Huskies traveled to Huntsville and won two-of-three to take the series against the Bearkats. Jon Testani recorded a pair of doubles and drove in four en route to a three-hit game against the Bearkats. Carson Cross was superb with 7.1 scoreless innings to close out a series win.

Friday projected starter: LHP Mason Feole (1-3 3.56 ERA) vs. RHP Hayden Wesneski (6-1 3.11 ERA)
Saturday projected starter: RHP Jeff Kerstan (3-3 4.64 ERA) vs. TBA
Sunday projected starter: RHP Jimmy Wang (1-2 3.63 ERA) vs. TBA

General question: what is the process like for scheduling non conference games in baseball?

Unless there is an inter-conference affiliation (which in this case there is none), schools reach out to one another. Sam Houston probably and an open weekend from conference play that matched ours. We are going to go somewhere with super chances weather-wise to get three games in. Sometimes there is a connection between coaches. Strength of schedule factors are considered. Sometimes a coach wants to get games in the home area of senior players. Sometimes coaches want visibility in an area where they recruit. Not sure if this helped at all.....

Yeah, thanks!

It’s just always such a high up, hush hush affair with football, especially. I was just kind of curious how a series like this came to be.

I also thought it was pretty cool & probably coincidental that the Astros are home this weekend. It was neat seeing some of the posts on the UConn baseball page showing the team at Minute Maid with Springer yesterday afternoon.

Weekend Wishlist:

1. Vintage Feole
2. Making Sam Houston earn their runs
3. Smart, patient at-bats
4. Not getting thrown out while NOT attempting to steal
5. Not playing hero ball at any point in the game

Some schools use the link below to schedule OOC series for open dates. One thing that is a big consideration in baseball scheduling is the amount of "gaurantee" a home team can offer the visiting team and how much or little the visiting team needs in a "guarantee" to make the trip for their budget.

Good list Octavius, and I would like to add a couple more:

6. At LEAST 2 walks by Chris Winkel
7. Give Wang a chance to stretch his start out a bit if he is rolling

Offensively, the biggest thing UConn can do is get a few hits when the Huskies have runners in scoring position. Leaving the bases loaded without scoring runs is not a recipe for success. Penders has been all over this in the various interviews he conducts, and on this point he is right.

5 pitches. 3 outs. Ouch.

Muffed throw then back to back 4 pitch walks. Bases now loaded with 1 out.

I’m willing to pay for ESPN plus to watch these games....anyone else? Doing the free trial tonight. 4.99/mo isn’t a deal breaker.

There must only be 4 of us watching the game....

Feole having a lot of trouble throwing strikes out of the stretch tonight, walking a hitter after giving up a one out hit by pitch in the bottom of the 2nd. Gets the next two hitters to get out of the 2nd inning.

The Sam Houston State preview article that @huskymedic has in his preview at the beginning of this thread mentions that the Bearkats are also having lots of trouble getting hits with runners in scoring position lately.
