Top 7th, UConn offense with a scoreless inning, Studley is thrown out trying to steal 2B on a pick off attempt for the final out. No score.

Bottom 7th, a no out solo homer off of Van Emon, 1-0 Rutgers.

With no out Rutgers gets runners on the corners, followed by a no out RBI single, 2-0 Rutgers, runners are at the corners. Van Emon comes out of the game. Afthim takes the mound.

A sac bunt for the 1st out brings in another run, 3-0 Rutgers. Rutgers loads the bases with 2 outs. Afthim comes out of the game.

Afthim?
This is a tough G1. Their lineup and starter today are tough. Van Emon has the goods.

Bottom 7th, Cinnella takes the mound with the bases loaded and 2 out. A fly out ends the inning. 3-0 Rutgers.

So far the UConn offense has only 3 hits and no walks on the game, plus 9 strikeouts.

Bottom 8th, Rutgers puts runners on the corners with 1 out. A runner is thrown out for the 2nd out trying to steal home on a double steal. Cinnella leaves 2 runners on base after a walk. 3-0 Rutgers.

Top 9th, UConn offense puts 2 runners on base with 2 outs on a Tammaro walk and a Morton single. Nothing comes of this rally attempt. Rutgers with a 3-0 victory.

Chris Jones says Daniels has a hip injury that kept him out of this game.

Was hoping for Luke to make it interesting…

Kid threw a complete game shut-out. Van Eamon threw well enough to win w/ some offense.

offense needs to get going. UConn has one of the oldest lineups in the country. These guys have 100's of college AB's in there career and are in there 4th 5th and even 6th years of college. No excuse for these type of numbers.

Losing to Rutgers is pretty pathetic. This season is off to a terrible start.

Agree with 1 of your statements, disagree with the other. Rutgers is a solid ballclub that has a realistic chance at getting in the tournament (and was on the bubble the past 2 years). But yes the season is off to a terrible start. Today was a carbon copy of the URI game.

They've played 20 games. Look at the averages for guys with >40 ABs (at least playing ~ 50% of the time):
Padilla .220
Daniels .207
Malcom .205
Dalena .163
Minick .122

Just pure variance (luck) would tell you that you can hit higher than .200 just putting the ball in play.

I'm not even listing guys hitting in the .240s (Studley, Broadhurst). Team is hitting .227.

Any type of respectable pitching shuts them down. LIU was a mirage and they were gifted 10 walks. Nothing to take away from that game. This needs to get fixed asap or this season will come down to May 22-25 at Prasco Park (IF they even qualify). When it's this widespread coaching staff has to look at the process and approach.

I planned on going to BC/NE next week assuming weather is ok. I'm not even sure I want to go up there and watch that offense. I'll just watch it at home on +. That's how bad this thing is right now.

It seems UConn pitching has improved quite a bit since the beginning of the season. However, the offense remains very inconsistent from game to game. Among other things, they need to get more runners on base and improve on the team on base percentage.

“Inconsistent” is way too kind. The offense is simply very poor.

I would have to agree “ inconsistent “ is an understatement. You have 4-5 guys that Can hit, their just not doing it right now…then you have 5 plus ( simmons Padilla Kron shpur minnick Dalena that are not). The regression by both Padilla and Simmons is drastic the past couple years. I know injuries have played a part but it’s not the cause when they’re in the lineup. Based on 2 yrs ago production and projecting out, Padilla would theoretically be a 10 plus hr guy. Above average pitching may be a problem all season and elite arms, 4 hit nights might be the realistic expectation. I don’t think the offense is this anemic, overall. They can still win a road series.
