Top 1st, Padilla leads off with a double. After a sac bunt by Shpur moves Padilla to 3B, Morton with a 2 out RBI single, 1-0 UConn. Morton is thrown out trying to steal 2B for the final out of the inning.

Have to say I'm not a fan of a sac bunt with a runner at 2B. Runner is already in scoring position, and it is not as if you have to worry about a possible double play with no runner at 1B. But at least UConn did get the runner to eventually score, and UConn has had a horrible time getting runners on base to score. Plus it isn't as if Shpur has been hitting for much of an average.

Bottom 1st, S. Quigley has a 1-2-3 inning, ending the inning with a strikeout. 1-0 UConn.

Scrapping for a lead and runs is clearly the strategery. Can’t blame them. Bunt & run, run & bunt, put the ball in play.

Top 2nd, after 2 outs, the UConn offense gets 2 runners on base with singles. Nothing comes of this 2 out rally attempt, all 3 outs this inning were on strikeouts. 1-0 UConn.

Bottom 2nd, S. Quigley has a scoreless inning after a leadoff single. 1-0 UConn.

Top 3rd, UConn offense leaves a runner at 3B, Shpur reached base on a 1 out single. 1-0 UConn.

Bottom 3rd, S. Quigley has a scoreless inning after a 2 out walk. 1-0 UConn. Quigley at 34 pitches.

Top 4th, UConn offense goes down in order. 1-0 UConn. The UConn offense has 5 strikeouts so far this game.

Bottom 4th, S. Quigley retires the side in order with 2 strikeouts. 1-0 UConn. Quigley doing quite well so far this game.

Looking at the batting averages and RISP totals of both teams starting lineups and their night/day. Rutgers has a deep lineup regardless of how UConn’s compares

Top 6th, after a Morton 1 out infield single, a pitching change. A double play ends the inning. 1-0 UConn.

Bottom 6th, S. Quigley faces the minimum with the help of a double play to end the inning after a 1 out single. 1-0 UConn.

Top 7th, with 2 out Kron gets on 2B due to an infield error. Malcom pinch hits for Simmons with a lefty pitcher on the mound. A fly out ends the inning. 1-0 UConn.

.-.
Top 8th, a leadoff solo homer for Padilla, 2-0 UConn. UConn offense proceeds to load the bases with no outs on a Shpur walk, an infield hit, and a hit by pitch. Dalena reaches base on a fielders choice that brings in a run with no out being recorded on the play. 3-0 UConn. A Broadhurst sac fly makes the score 4-0 UConn.

Top 8th, UConn offense leaves 2 runners in scoring position, but it was still a productive inning for the Huskies. 4-0 UConn.

Bottom 8th, S. Quigley gives up a 1 out solo homer, 4-1 UConn. S. Quigley retires the next 2 batters including a strikeout to end the inning. S. Quigley at 88 pitches, it wouldn't surprise me if he is still on the mound to start the bottom of the 9th.
