UConn playing St. Bonaventure?

Bonaventure’s Coach Schmidt gets better results from his 2* and 3* players than any other coach I know which makes me wonder why a bigger program has not offered him a boat load of money to leave Olean.

100% but he does love it there - I thought Pitt absolutely should have seriously considered him, and maybe they did. He doesn't have the name recognition of Capel but he can coach his butt off.

Schmidt is one of my favorite coaches.

Quick scouting report:

Their entire starting lineup returns, all of which will be seniors who played 33 mpg+ and averaged between 10.7 and 14.4 ppg:

1) Kyle Lofton, 6'3 190: 14.4p, 3.5r, 5.5a, 1.4s, 41.4 fg%, 24 3p%.

2) Jaren Holmes, 6'4 215: 13.8p, 5.3r, 2.0a, 0.9s, 42.2 fg%, 38.1 3p%

3) Dominck Welch, 6'5 200: 11.4p, 6.0r, 2.1a, 1.2s, 43.4 3p%, 39.2 3p%

4) Jalen Adaway, 6'5 210: 12.2p, 6.0r, 1.4a, 51.5 fg%, 34.5 3p%

5) Osun Osunniyi: 6'10 220: 10.7p, 9.4r, 2.4a, 2.9b, 57.1 fg% (doesn't attempt threes).

Their entire bench transferred, but they brought in transfers:
  • Former Pitt forward, Karim Coulibaly (6'8 215 junior, 5.2p, 3.9r, 22.5 mpg, former #237 class of '19)
  • Former Wake Forest sophomore guard Quadry Adams (8.0 mpg, former #466 class of '20).
Aside from these seven players, I'm curious how their other four pieces fit in.

I'm repeating myself, but would absolutely love to see UConn play the Bonnies. Their lineup is very similar to the lineup of Maryland and it would great to see them bounce back and beat a top-25ish team with big, strong guards.

Coached against Welch in HS, he's a really good athlete and a big time scorer at that level. Probably not a high major athlete but for that level he's been great. Broke the WNY all-time scoring record (including Laettner and Cliff amongst others).

Lofton is a really good guard too, and you mentioned the few P5 transfers as well. Their roster is strong after a really good season last year.

Nice update on the Bonnies, they're a very solid team and probably will be even better next year. Osunniyi is really good!

Is this photoshopped? I remember an exceptionally short player on St. Bonaventure with comically long shorts, but I don't remember it being this bad.

Edit: Did some googling, and it appears he really wore those shorts, but it was a one-off situation. The legend of Green’s baggy shorts, other Bona bits
It looks like if freshman Kemba had to borrow Thabeet’s shorts.

FWIW, Saint Bonaventure has released their OOC schedule:

No UConn so far, but there is an 9 day gap between their 12/8 and 12/17 game.

UConn's last game that we know of is also 12/8 (West Virginia), that also matches up well to our schedule.

That's their final exam period. Doesn't seem like we're playing this year.

The casual fan doesnt realize how good St B is so this is a high risk low reward matchup from a perception standpoint. I’d rather play a middle of the pack P5 then a really good midmajor unless it’s Gonzaga
I am not worried about the perception of the casual fan. I am more worried about building an NCAA resume which winning this game does and losing it doesn't kill you.

Confirming that the women are playing in a men's-womens doubleheader. That a Chief-level confirmation right there.
You realize that it it isn't a just UConn men's/woman's doubleheader, it is a tournament that both men the men's team and the women's team is playing in, right?

Lol at how hard you try here.

Interesting selections of players to use in that graphic. I would not have though of Nelson-Ododa or Sanogo as the top choices on either team. Was Paige too expensive with NIL now? :)

you realize that it's two basketball games, one with UConn men and one with UConn women, and not a "tournament" in any traditional sense, right?

I actually went to post this earlier today but then figured either there was some joke in there that escaped me or I was just going to let him twist in the wind and look foolish on his own merit.

Well now, sure.
[shrugs]

With you, they're all gimmes.
Uh, it doesn’t seem like that. It seems like it matters to you a lot, which is kind of sad when you think about it.

So thus far, the UConn WBB have announced OOC home games against ND, Tennessee and Arkansas.

The UConn MBB have announced OOC home games against CCSU.

Who has the higher seat donations and ticket prices?

There’s work to be done Mr Benedict and Hurley. No more platitudes about UConn Nation fans. Get the home schedule work done that someone can be proud of! Actions speak louder than words.

Of course, Chief will be there and supports this tournament, which will help NJ/Philly/NY recruiting. Nevertheless, we need to close the deal and announce some meaningful OOC MBB home games.

Chief
