"...He was projected to provide some help at the third guard or stretch forward spots,..."
So they had projected him as a 6-10 guard? Interesting. But we're looking at him as a big? Or is that just a BY assumption based on his height?

Just an assumption. Though there is a poster on here (I forget the name) that is a juco coach and always seems to have good info on the juco recruits.

I mean it's a short video but he has a wonderful stroke for hs size, no doubt can handle the basketball for his size and when he looks to try to play defense has good footwork. But again, real short look and thing I had to say in a negative sense about the video was - he wants to be a 6'10 PG. ;)

If I were his coach is recommend he take a year off of PED monitoring and take more steroids than Ivan Drago. He looks made for the big leagues if he has some more meat on his bones.

Would be a great get.

@Burnsbros23. Maybe he's got something on Mading.

All I know Is that he redshirted last year at Rhode Island. Left and is now at Chipola in Florida. We were going through the transfer portal at the Juco I’m at saw his name and swear he was listed at 6’8. So I’m guessing maybe he had a late growth spurt. Then you can tell by his game he’s going to look great in open gyms and skills stuff which is what people are watching when he blew up.

Juco has the ability to make a kid bigger on a roster than Divy 1 LOL so I have no doubt he's closer to 6'8 than he is 6'11. But still looks skilled, but can he rebound? LOL

He may be tall, but his skillset is all guard oriented. I suspect he's going end up playing as a point forward somewhere. I wouldn't mind it being here.

Seems like a stretch 4 is his eventual role.

Taller version of Daniel Hamilton perhaps.

Isn't it three? Josh, Whaley, Polley. It would be Gilbert if he doesn't leave early. But's a three bigs. We are focusing on bigs now that will be ready to replace that group. 2021 will need a PG.

2021-2022 freshman class has 5 spots but assuming 1 or 2 will get filled THIS class there will be 3 which is still more than enough should someone leave which is unlikely but something to always have in the back of your mind.

I disagree. He’ll be a center in college.

I think what people forget is you pitch him to other centers that he is a stretch 4, not a 5. So say we get him you can still recruit Cardwell and Cliff

Maybe he is our Ajou Deng of the 21st Century who actually works out well for UConn if he commits.

He is a stretch 4 not a 5, sorry UcannUcann
How many 6’10+ kids are recruited as wings/stretch type players and end up playing center? The majority. He has a similar skill set as Ater Majok, who was billed as a SF ended up playing center exclusively. Unless you are Kevin Durant if you are 6’11 you are probably playing center in the big east.

Thanks. 15 points, 4 rebounds in 23 minutes per game. 2.5 assists, 3 turnovers, 0.8 blocks per game. 46% shooting, 28% on 3s, 64% on free throws. A little Tyler Polley ish.

Dunno, I see 4 rebounds in there. That's decidedly not Polley.

Heh. This is JUCO, there are a lot of shots. His team is averaging 49 rebounds per game. He's played 11.8% of his team's minutes and gotten 8.2% of his team's rebounds. Not good for a tall guy.

His feet are very, very good for a guy that size. He plays like a Euro-big.

he has talent and if he commits to UConn and plays here, that is not a bad thing as it means Coach Hurley likes him a lot

UConn still involved. Evan Daniels mentioned Hurley will be looking in JUCO ranks. Keep eye out for him.

“Schools include SDSU, Nevada, LSU, Cincinnati, UConn, Colorado, just to name a few,” he told Stockrisers.com. He said LSU recently reached out and will be in to see him soon.

UConn is only mentioned once. Seems like UConn was probably included in the tweet for clicks IMO.

Mading is a project. He’s a 6’11 wing/stretch 4 with some touch so his upside is high, but he wouldn’t be able to contribute to the team this year had he been here. Shooting 27% from 3 and averaging below 8 REB/40 in JUCO.

Honestly these stringbean bigs are like gold mines when it comes to recruiting. Can turn them into offensive scoring machines or defensive studs like Akok.

I agree. Just thought I’d post it bc Daniels mentioned UConn might go JUCO and this is the only guy I can think of/ was just posted today. Much better chance of Etienne than him. Don’t think UConn has been in to see him for a while.
