Jordan’s arms and shoulders look much bigger than I remember. Should bode well for his growth on the defensive end

Hawkins not doing the best so far. Seems to struggle creating for himself and going to the rim still.

Dejounte Murray was a great pickup for the Pelicans leadership wise (he’s a dog in a Jimmy Butler mold). I hope he takes Hawkins under his wing too
Unfortunately hawkins needed to go because he was a fringe lottery pick. He needed another year. He lacks confidence and may never succeed in Nba. Hope i am wrong

“He’s just so impressive. You don’t see that kind of confidence from young guys,” Larry Nance Jr. said. “To miss six straight threes in a game and keep getting them up, that’s Korver-level confidence. That’s (JJ) Redick-level confidence. The elite shooters. He’s certainly got the makeup to be that.”

Confidence is perhaps the only thing he doesn't lack. He was 1-9 at halftime and the 1 was within the 1st minute of the game. First thing he does in the second half is launch a contested 3 and drains it en route to an 11 point third quarter. Also scored 30+ twice last season and 25 points twice. He's a flamethrower and he knows it

His issue in Summer League is that he's playing PG and has to create his own shot off the dribble, which he's very bad at

He needs confidence in doing more than shooting the hardest shot in basketball.

I think that’s what he’s talking about. The Jeremy Lamb development plan would’ve been helpful for Hawkins but he never added to his game here outside of the 3 point shooting and defense.

According to the president of basketball operations for the Pelicans. He needs to improve is defense.

I agree it still has some ways to go to be good at the NBA level. But it got a lot better while he was here.

It's not really confidence.

Last year he showed he has a relatively poor handle for a two guard. His passing is fine but not creative. He rebounds well for a two (when he gets PT). He also finishes poorly at the rim largely due to the fact even light contact throws him off wildly.

A lot of those are skill issues that he should be able to develop if focused on.

Lamb is proof of that. His handle came a long way from his freshman to sophomore year. He was also a bean pole and did great at finishing at the rim (having those arms were helpful to be fair).

It seemed like Hawkins through interviews has been highly focused on practicing his 3s. But it’d be nice if he put that energy towards other areas of his game that desperately need it and can have a better ROI results wise.

He has one skill that he’s exceptional - catch and shoot 3pt. It’s not enough in the NBA, as cannot be a one trick pony at that level. Hawk is gonna have to figure other ways to contribute or else it’s not going to be a long run in the NBA.

Sanogo with another super efficient game. 16 points and 8 rebounds (and 10 fouls lol) in 24 minutes. 54.5% shooting, missed both his threes but made 4-4 FTs. It doesn’t make sense how he scores so much despite the game just being an iso fest for the perimeter players, but he’s so good at finding the right place at the right time. One of 3 players with a positive BPM

Defensively he’s definitely not a rim protector against slashing guards and wings, and not great in space (hence all the fouls), but actually walls up and defends pretty well when other bigs try to take him down low

Announcer kept confusing another guy with Sanogo, which was annoying because the other guy played really bad lol

Buzelis needs to get stronger, but has a LOT of potential. Went crazy towards the end of the game

I also think he needs to get stronger.

Bummed Castle's summer league stint is already over, but I think the Spurs know what they have in him, so no need to get him back out there for relatively meaningless games. Don't want to end up like Daron Holmes.

Not UConn but Daniss Jenkins is going crazy right now. Almost 20 points at halftime

Reed slowing down but not a bad game by any means - 9 points on 44% at halftime. 2 steals, 2 turnovers, 4 fouls
Cam Whitmore 0-6, yikes

Yep, agreed. He should be better if he can get a bit stronger which should in turn help some with his finishing at the rim.

Memphis is completely overwhelming Dallas to start. Was 13-0 until Whaley hit a 3 (!!) for the Mavs’ first points

Cam has gotten 2 wide open layups from his teammates’ defensive pressure and had a nice floater over Whaley too. 17-3 after 5 minutes lol

Don’t really know the contract lingo. Is Sanogos new 2 way deal better than what he had last year? Thanks

Pretty much the same, 2 way salary last season was $559k, this upcoming season its $579k

Most of the players on Dallas seem horrible

Cam doing Cam things & looking like he belongs in the NBA again!

Clngan only played a few minutes before going to the bench (conditioning?) but has owned the paint in the time he’s out there. 2 blocks in 4 minutes

Clingan scoreless after the first quarter (0-1, missed a bunny floater) but is owning the paint when he’s out there. Sagging off a bit too low on screen and rolls but assuming that’s a gameplan thing. 2 blocks and 3 boards in the first quarter
