What proof is there to suggest the offense is better with Whaley at the 5? That worked out real well against PC.
You don't think the super small sample size compared to the Whaley/Sanogo lineup has anything to do with that??? You saw what happened when Whaley was forced to play the 5 for the whole game against a formidable opponent.
And how many minutes did each of those lineups get? Probably a small sample for the 1st one, and definitely the 4th one.
You should have quoted him then. Adama got plenty of rest. He played less than the other big time centers I can think of- Kofi, Oscar, Dickinson, Kalkbrenner...I was quoting Hurley

Do you think Jamie Dixon wishes he had used the high hedge in the 2011 Big East tournament rather than switching? The high hedge is very effective. You need players that can switch if you are not going to use it and next year with taller guards we should be able to switch. The opponent couldn’t have devised as effective a strategy to stop Adama as Hurley did in 2021/2022 season. At this juncture, let’s learn from it, put to bed the center in the High Hedge scheme and start 2022/2023 with fresh thinking and shooters.
No way a small sample size could ever sway efficiencyefficiency calculation. How does it work? Lol
It is but we use it too much, it works against most inferior opponents but when you get to the really good teams and really good offensive coaches they exploit it. We're too much of a one trick pony with it, Carlton couldn't do it effectively at all and Clingan won't be able to either.Do you think Jamie Dixon wishes he had used the high hedge in the 2011 Big East tournament rather than switching? I know efficiency is a per-possession stat, dips___.efficiency calculation. How does it work? Lol
1st and 4th ones played 74 offensive possessions. 2nd one 121 and 3rd one 534.I know efficiency is a per-possession stat, dips___.
I'm asking how big a sample size was used to arrive at those numbers.
The basketball season.I know efficiency is a per-possession stat, dips___.

Roughly 75 possessions for both Whaley lineups, 120 for just Sanogo, 530 for the one with both. The takeaway should not be Whaley was better than Sanogo, it should be we needed to play 1 bigI know efficiency is a per-possession stat, dips___.

Yup, both the best lineups had one big.Roughly 75 possessions for both Whaley lineups, 120 for just Sanogo, 530 for the one with both. The takeaway should not be Whaley was better than Sanogo, it should be we needed to play 1 big
Definitely. If Sanogo stays around a couple more years it will be interesting to see how they bring Clingan along.Roughly 75 possessions for both Whaley lineups, 120 for just Sanogo, 530 for the one with both. The takeaway should not be Whaley was better than Sanogo, it should be we needed to play 1 big
This is interesting, August_West. What website gave you these stats and did you have to pay for it or can anyone access this?
Interesting that our starting lineup was our least efficient lineup.
You should have quoted him then. Adama got plenty of rest. He played less than the other big time centers I can think of- Kofi, Oscar, Dickinson, Kalkbrenner...

Calhoun knew exactly what Pitt was going to do and therefore got the mismatch he desired. I think, while different, the same holds true with the high hedge. The opposition knows the mismatch that will result except there is more of a period of time where a player will be left totally unguarded. Don’t be fooled at the end of the play when the original defender gets back to their man (kind of), too often it results in a foul or too little too late. The recovery to the mess is what gets us in trouble against good teams and wears Adama out, so he can’t perform on the offensive end.Do you think Jamie Dixon wishes he had used the high hedge in the 2011 Big East tournament rather than switching? Springs is really small for a 5 but we haven’t seen enough of him to say where he fits. He has pretty good form on his jumper in warmups. We already have that guy on the roster in Samson Johnson. We haven't been connected to any bigs because we have 4 guys who could get minutes at the 5 (Sanogo, Johnson, Clingan, Springs) and 4 guys who could get minutes at the 4 (Johnson, Karaban, Jackson, Springs). We needs guards and wings

And, interestingly, Tyler Polley on the floor for spacing.Yup, both the best lineups had one big.
I don't think Richie is any shorter than Sanogo. I really hope he gets a little run next year. I've only seen him in short spurts and during garbage time but he doesn't seem overwhelmed or overmatched. Don't sleep on SpringsSprings is really small for a 5 but we haven’t seen enough of him to say where he fits. He has pretty good form on his jumper in warmups.
The only kid that was more of a mystery was the kid who was going to give up his scholarship for Drummond. I may be wrong. but I don’t remember him ever playing or even dressing.
It's not just the sample size, it's situational. Sanogo mostly came out when the other team pulled their 5. So Whaley was often facing a backup when he was at the 5.I know efficiency is a per-possession stat, dips___.

Michael Bradley. I actually think Springs is one of our better rebounders.Springs is really small for a 5 but we haven’t seen enough of him to say where he fits. He has pretty good form on his jumper in warmups.

Our 3 best offensive lineups all had Polley in there. And, interestingly, Tyler Polley on the floor for spacing.
Look again. Its right in front of you.Our 3 best offensive lineups all had Polley in there.
Incidentally, those were also our 3 worst defensive lineups.
A lower defensive efficiency is better. You don't even know what you are looking at.Look again. Its right in front of you.
But the largest positive spread between O and D efficiency in the one-big with Polley groupings. Our 3 best offensive lineups all had Polley in there.
Incidentally, those were also our 3 worst defensive lineups.
