He was a highly rated HS player. I wonder if he didn't qualify academically.

And we all remember how that went....Lindsey Hunter and a home NIT loss at Gampel. The best JUCO we ever had was Johnnie Selvie. I don't like JUCOS because it takes a player time to learn a system and team and if they come with only two years of eligibility it is not enough time. Besides, we're UCONN not Tarkanian and UNLV. If we're recruiting another point guard does that signify anything for Napier and Boatright?
A juco pointguard, Cupp Cormier flashback.

I may have to check out his game. The school is only about 5 minutes from where I work.

This means nothing about Bazz or Boat. I remember reading an article on him either at the beginning of the season, or right before the season and the kid is supposed to be a stud scoring guard. He is a 2013 recruit, who knows if Bazz or Boat will be here. All things being equal, I would like to see the staff land a great HS pg to learn under the two we currently have but I don'tknow if 2013 is supposed to be a great PG class.

Selvie was a juco and a top 5 all-time Husky.
Selvie was a nice player but not even close to top 5 all-time. In no particulate order, Ray Allen, Rudy Gay, Richard Hamilton, Chris Smith, Toby Kimball, Okafor, Kemba, Cliff Robinson, Caron Butler, Jeremy Lamb, Thabeet, and Donyell Marshall. That's 13 better right there with minimal effort.

Um, no.

If UConn had the scholarships to give out, they would likely have a third PG on the roster anyway. If anything, the fact that they're looking at another point guard makes me optimistic that they expect to get another scholarship back (since they'll likely pick up another commitment from a post player).

The conclusions that people love to draw on this board never cease to baffle me.

edit: WPO - Triche went to prep school before coming to UConn. I think he has since gone the JUCO route, but I'm not positive about that.

How could I have left Ben Gordon off?? Throw Rod Sellers, El Amin and Donny Marshall in there as well as all better than Selvie.

Jones is a good player - definitely good enough to play at this level.

He signed with Bruce Pearl and then asked out of his letter last spring after Pearl was canned. Kinda meaningless - he wasn't going to qualify anyway.

That said, I got a kick out of someone opining that it's 'not good' for Napier or Boatright because UConn was mentioned by a second-rate blog as having 'made inroads' with a junior college point guard who is two years away from playing a DI game.

I think it is saying the staff thinks they may get some ships back and need a possible 3rd pg. If boatright or nap went down we would be screwed

not a good sign for bazz and boat.

This kid is 2 years away. He'd be a member of the 2013-2014 Huskies. Napier will be a senior and Boatright will be a junior. That's like saying it wasn't a good sign for AJ Price that we recruited Kemba Walker.
