The 2024 team really is the pinnacle of this program. Such a special team. We got to see greatness at such an exceptional level. Every player had their own unique quality.
I already had them pegged as the best UConn team of all time, but I everyone’s collective success in the NBA really solidifies it. So many great players on that team that played so well together.

Agree with everything except Spurs being better on D. OKC is All-Time defensively. Stats back that up.
OKC D ain't so hot against the Spurs. Might be an all-time D but doesn't matter if they can't beat the Spurs.

Sure, just saying the rest of the season they’ve had, plus last season, shows they are an ELITE defensive team. It’s just a fact.

I can’t help but think that when the Grizz offered him the 4 years, they might have said something like “this deal is going to make us look incredibly smart or incredibly stupid.” At the time, all Cam had really proven was that he had a winning attitude. The other players knew that much during his first summer league, with Gigi Jackson referring to Cam as “National Champ.”

Predicting Cam having a Kevin Ollie type career seemed reasonable at the time. Memphis gave him that opportunity. He ran with it, and has shown just how good a guy with physical limitations can be.

No it didn't, anyone who has watched Cam Spencer play would see he's miles better than Ollie. He was injured his rookie season which set him back but when given an opportunity he showed out like he always does. In games last season he got 20 minutes or more he averaged 15 ppg and 4.3 assists. He scored 51 points on 12-15 three point shooting in a G league game last season.

Steph NEEDS to clean up his turnovers. Think he had 3 or 4 but likely should have more
Don't worry about a 2nd year pro who played nearly zero PG in college
He will be just fine

Cam is really impressive. He’s obviously a terrific shooter and very smart player & passer. The NBA so often focuses on elite athleticism that it can miss players like Cam that are simply outworking and outsmarting the competition. It’s a league where big stars take whole games off and routinely slack off in game. A guy out there giving the max for every minute and playing smart, selfless basketball stands out. It’s a hell of a lesson for players trying to make it in the league.

His shooting and his decision making were expected to translate, but not at this level. And, there was a question if he would be too much of a defensive liability to play.

Right now, he’s achieved what I had viewed as his ceiling - rotation player and spot starter. Clearly, I was wrong.

I get that the 4 year deal provides a safety net, but surely his agent should have foreseen Cam outperforming his deal and advised him to take a shorter term deal. He's gonna be a severely underpaid until his age 30 season.
Take the money. He gets injured they cut him and he gets zero. He will make it up next contract.

Castle is a star, today. Castle and Wemby and 3 other guys playing team ball can beat anyone. Especially, if they have an elite bucket getter alongside. Who they acquired last season.

From an NBA point of view when drafted, Cam is an undersized unathletic shooting guard. A great shooter and very good passer who wont be able to guard his position. In the NBA you have to be able to guard your position. Hes not 3 and D because he doesn't have the D.

Ive seen several of his games and his D looks pretty decent. The video posted talks about how he has improved on D.

Things I didn't see at Uconn. His range is ridiculous, as well as his ability to make contested 3s. He didnt have to do these things at Uconn due to his team being elite, he was very efficient. And who would have thought he would have games where hes the primary starting point guard with stats of 13 assists and 1 turnover?

So yes, Cam has outperformed all expectations. 10 million for 4 years for a guy who had not really proven himself in real NBA games was a great deal at the time. Maybe he blew them away in practice I dont know.

No colleges wanted this kid out of high school. Against all odds, Cam Spencer. Against even more odds, Pat Spencer. The documentaries Im sure will be coming out. Hard work, perseverance.

Watching the playoffs and finals last year, while Dort and Caruso especially are absoluetly great on defense, they hold and hack and get away with it more than anyone I’ve seen in recent years. Caruso was actually hanging off Jokic’s back in the western conference finals with no calls.

ESPN’s net points per 100 possessions has Castle at 23rd in the NBA. It’s only one metric, I know. Still, he really is a borderline All Star already, though I don’t think he’ll make it in a loaded West.

FWIW, Spencer is 40th (crazy!) and DC is 56th.

Don’t know about that. Ray Allen was pretty good.

It’s a high bar to clear but I can easily imagine Castle getting into double digits all-NBA selections (Ray had 2 total) and more than 2 championships if Wemby is mostly healthy throughout his career. I’d say eventual MVP contender as well but that will be tough if Wemby is a contender every year that Castle is in the league. It could also be that none of that happens… but right now it seems plausible enough.

Easily into double digit all NBA selections? Easily?

Ummm. Do you know how many people are on that all time list? I’d imagine it’s like 10 or less.

It's a little early live in the moment.

“Easily imagine” I could easily imagine winning the powerball too

I’m all for respecting our history as much as anyone. But we’re just talking about Castle being a top 6 guard in the league for 2 seasons. Highly feasible for him.
