UConn in the Pros December 2025

Let's see - twins who are really good at basketball, who got drafted in the lottery and are playing well in the NBA

OR

Two uber-competitive brothers who would shove Grandma out of the way to win a race against each other, who were both star lacrosse players, one of whom was the NPOY and then played 1 year at Northwestern, signed to a G-League team and is now a major part of one of the premier franchises in the NBA, and the other played at 3 colleges before getting drafted in the 2nd round and is now shooting 51% from 3.

Yeah. #1 definitely. I love the part of the story where they just keep being good at basketball.
Even if I wasn't a UConn fan I'd go with 2, even with all the unmentioned details, just more engaging.

Unlike the modern athlete, I bet the Spencer boys were old school multi sport athletes that built muscles/brain power to be elastic across sports. Not the specialists you see today that pick a sport early and never touch another. When you hear about some of the great players, they often do - I know Lebron played football, MJ played baseball.
Jim Brown = Lacross legend and All American at Syracuse as well as football. Gene Conley Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Braves pitcher. Bo Jackson, Deon Sanders and so many others. Scott Burrell first American athlete to be first round draft pick in MLB and NBA (recently learned that he had a 95 mph fastball in HS) LOL. Dave Winfield drafted in three major league sports (Baselball, basketball and football). Talk about gifted. Both Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russel were track stars (high jump!!!)

Liam is still in the G League. Struggled with his shot yesterday (4-13 FG, 0-7 3P) but scored 15 points and had 8 rebounds, 8 assists. Overall is averaging 18.3 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 7.7 APG shooting 35.6% FG, 11.1% 3P (!!) in 3 games (35.8 MPG)

Other G League news from yesterday - Samson Johnson has actually made himself a starter. Starting C for Indiana's team, played 20 minutes yesterday, had 10 points and 6 rebounds on 5-7 shooting. This is really great to see!

Scary part about the Castle SGA comp is that at 21 years old he has 30+ pounds of muscle on him.

Stronger, more athletic, SGA. Who also locks up on defense and is a better passer.

This should be on record that I was on the SGA comp early too. It’s me and HW’s main agreement - I also said Jimmy Butler but more G oriented.

His body is bigger and stronger than SGA which makes it scary as heck for the league.

Shai has a shooting touch that Castle will never have.

Castle is moreso strength based getting into the lane and finishing thru contact.

SGA is more of a finesse player.

I don’t really get the player comp.
More explosive.

That's true on style, but overall their projections as players are similar and they are both decent 3 point shooters (not great) but the ability to use craftiness to score and distribute as a big combo guard.

It's not an exact style comp - Steph's style is an amalgamation of multiple guys - you could combine Cade, Shai and Jimmy along with some Jrue and get Steph.

SGA is strength too, he gets separation on the shoulder bump vs everyone, including centers

Once Steph starts working on his midrange and post game more he can probably walk to 30 every night like Shai does.

There’s going to be no stopping him once he can hit that consistently and can bully you going to the rim if you’re forced to guard him that close from 16’ out.

At the end of the day he’s in that SGA/Cade archetype of big guards who can score at a high level and run their teams.
