UConn in the Pros December 2025

Was there ever a question that would stay for year 2 in Storrs or was it foregone conclusion 1 and done
When he first committed early in his junior year of HS, it wasn’t definite (he was a four star ranked about No. 25). He blew up even more and moved into the top 10 - and I think the assumption by the time he got to campus was that with his size and profile for his position, he was going after one year. It did take him a little while to look the part after his injury - but by February, we didn’t expect him back.

Don’t really understand Liam to the G League. He started to string together a few good games. 8 points a game on 50% shooting in 4 December games. Had a season high 10 points last Wednesday, and then broke it with a season high 13 over the weekend

Charlotte's next game is tomorrow, and Greensboro's next game is tomorrow as well. So it's not like there was a game for extra reps

Hopefully he's just there to play a strong part of a few practices and then get called back up to the main roster for tomorrow's game
They still have him in the G League. Had 24 points and 11 rebounds on Friday. Struggled with his shot today (6-17) but still had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 12 assists with only 2 turnovers

Whattttt is Charlotte doingggggg

Castle's physical strength and craftiness to finish in the paint is bonkers!
There are 4 or 5 of crazy, acrobatic finishes you will see in this video.
His turn over is non-issue, he played too unselfishly, and those passes are him trying to get his team involved. as soon as he and his team mates realize his is the alpha, he'd better of taking it to the rack.
He could have 10 assists if his team mates makes those wide open 3s.
Also funny enough, he knocked down the Spurs first 3 pointer, and opened it up after 0-13 misses.

In this specific game, I don't fault him as much for his TOs. OKC has the best defense in the NBA for a reason and against most teams two-three of those TOs don't happen. Their guards are really good at jumping passing lanes and Williams just picked Harper and Castle clean once each.

Overall there are three things about his game to nitpick:

In general his TOs are too high at about 4 a game. He was starting to bring them down before he got injured but has been back to turning over the ball at a high rate since he came back (only 3 games). My main issue here is that he got a lot of TOs by just being sloppy early in the year, seemed to clean that up then has reverted the past three games (could be a bit of rust coming back from his injury).

His 3PT% is also still an issue in general but his shot looks better this year. It's only at basically the same percentage as last year but he's gone from bad misses (short, long, to the sides) to good misses (mostly long) from what I've seen. His body also doesn't look as funky shooting them.

Similarly, his FT% is still a bit too low in the low 70's. A player of his caliber can't give up free points that often or be outside the top 150 of FT% in the league.

Of those three things the TO's are the least of my worries as he did show the ability to bring those down before his injury.

"Defense aggressiveness is non-negotiable!" -- Stephon Castle

Steph is a star on and off the court. He is clearly a student of basketball - describes the game more like a coach than a player, and even the "appreciate y'all" at the end sounds super sincere.

GLeague numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt but it would be discouraging if he wasn't killing it down there. Let the injuries keep piling up across the league and he might get another shot somewhere.

I really don't have a good sense for the G-League level of play versus NCAA or Euroleague. I would have to assume that given each G-League team probably has a few first round draft picks, and guys who were second-round or really good college pros, that the level is substantially better than, say the Big East. is that right?

I went to a G-League game in person once. I'm not sure how representative that mid-season game was but neither coach played to win until the last few minutes. What mattered most to them it seemed, was getting each player on the roster a predetermined amount of playing time. The designated player got 32 minutes, the next level 24 or so and down the line. Match-ups didn't matter. The lead whipsawed at least 4 times in a game that reached the 130's. Not nearly as good of a product as the Connecticut Pride was back in the Broad St. Armory.

yea talent level is certainly better than the Big East but the game is skewed to where guys and teams are gonna put up crazy numbers, and it's certainly more wide open/faster paced than college hoops. Also things like what @Waquoit touched upon where if a player the parent club is invested in is sent down there they are going to put him in situations to where they want a certain amount of minutes/reps to evaluate them.

Has he been called up this season?

brief OT post - but Flagg has 40 going to OT in Utah. The Jazz led by 3, made the choice to foul with 3.4 seconds left, then gave up the offensive board on the miss.

Set the record for most points by an 18 year old, 42 pts. ROY race between him and Kon should be a good one.

Cam being Cam right now...
I’m so mad at League Pass not letting me have access to Lakers/Clippers games in SoCal. I keep seeing the Grizz score go up by 3 in my ESPN app and thinking “did he do it again?”

and the answer so far is almost always “yes, he did it again”.
