Cam should only be allowed to talk trash once he becomes one of the 5 best players in basketball history.

I don't think we're on the same page on what we think trash talk is.

Trash talk (in basketball) is verbal taunting or provocative speech directed at an opponent to intimidate, distract, or gain a psychological edge during a game.

Hardly listen to this pod since JJ left but this is some good insight into what made Cam Cam.

Love Cam but the Pat Spencer story continues to amaze me. While he was still playing lacrosse at Loyola his friends would ask him what he's going to do after college. His response was play in the NBA. Before Northwestern. Before anything.... and here he is. Amazing.

I haven't followed a Pat Spencer story. How did he even get the opportunity to play in the NBA if he wasn't playing college ball?

These two are of some incredible genetics.

This still cracks me up. I have the genes of an athlete, just not a competitive one.

It's insane. It's just about impossible to make the NBA and this guy does it after never playing 4 years through college because he was dominating lacrosse as one of the greatest players of all-time.

They are a different breed, I think both of them could've picked their sport and been amazing at it. I wouldn't say that for most professional athletes.

Pretty sure he and most others know what it is. What about what he said makes you think he needed the AI definition?

He just disagrees with your take that you should be a certain level of player to talk trash.

He played 1 year of basketball at Northwestern. After 4 years of lacrosse at Loyola.

Unlike the modern athlete, I bet the Spencer boys were old school multi sport athletes that built muscles/brain power to be elastic across sports. Not the specialists you see today that pick a sport early and never touch another. When you hear about some of the great players, they often do - I know Lebron played football, MJ played baseball.

I get he played for Rutgers, but if he doesn't come to Uconn, does he ever get a shot?? I know he's been back in Storrs, has he been back to any RU practices?
Our guy Richard is a Rutgers homer. He's a tough follow because has some insightful takes, but then wallops his cred with stuff like this.

Did you know that Rutgers coaches have coached players who made over a billion in the NBA combined! That’s impressive stuff.

Here, read my post from last week.

I think he does. He could go overseas for a year, get noticed. He's got the drive. UConn certainly accelerated his journey though

Cam's a winner why would he go back to Piscataway?

I don't think the Grizzlies will ever win anything with Morant. They should trade him. Heck of a talent and crazy athletic but he's not someone you want as your best player. He's also a knucklehead, which is never a good thing.
They shouldn't trade Morant now, but might have to trade him now as contradictory as that sounds. His trade value is low and any wiling trade partners will just look to exploit Memphis for pennies on the dollar. However, I am not so sure things with Morant and the Grizzlies are going to get better-he simply has lost his motivation.

Pat Spencer was cut from varsity lacrosse and basketball his sophomore season at Boys Latin and played JV because he was 5'4 120 lbs and they wanted him to have the ball in his hands at the JV level to develop as his body developed. Hollywood needs to make a movie about the brothers.

Maybe the worst take I’ve ever seen on this board.

You don’t have to gain an arbitrary status to talk trash, that’s not how the sports world works.

I’d assume, and he’s correct in doing so, Cam has talked trash since he started playing competitively.

If you hit 7 threes in a row, the last one from 29 feet, you are authorized under federal law to talk trash.

Couldn't agree more.

PS - Cam was talking smack to KD as an undrafted rookie in his first taste of the league - the man was born to talk smack.

I love a guy like that - it's what made us all love him.

I can't even fathom being a basketball fan in the year of our lord 2025 and thinking you need to become a "higher level player" in some fake status in order to talk smack.

His brother played at Northwestern and made it. Not sure why Cam wouldn’t have gotten the same shot at Rutgers.

NBA scouts can find players in Latvia, I don’t think they’re missing anyone playing D1 because of where they went to school.

Out of all the brothers in the NBA I don’t think they’ll choose the two bench players to make a movie on, respectfully.

It will be interesting to see how the Grizzlies move with Cam when their roster is healthy. He HAS to play at this point even with Scottie and Ty Jerome comes back (which won’t be for awhile).

He would have had some workouts and tryouts, but who knows if his game is the same as it was after a year with UConn, and I'd say it's almost certain he doesn't get drafted at all.

Not that the only way to develop is going to UConn, but there's almost no way to argue he didn't help himself with that year at UConn.

You’re right. Playing on a national championship team with 2 lottery picks didn’t help..my bad

Scouts spend just as much time scouting Latvia jr league as they do top 5 college teams

I think these two are entertaining as can be, and have unique stories. They look like investment bankers. Humans like a good story.

I know the Thompson twins are great basketball players, but there isn't much to get all that excited about there.

They made one of the most popular sports movies ever about a walk on college football player.

Curious what brothers in the NBA you think they would choose to make a movie on instead of them?

I just listed them above - because they were coached by Ollie. This guy has inherent bias that is crystal clear and predictable.
