UConn in the NFL

Getting a tad off topic here...but Zavier Scott at 26 Y/O is playing his first season in the NFL. What a road; UConn, then Maine and then years on NFL practice squads.

This guy didn't half of what Vic did here, though i felt he was just not used right here. Kid was a grade A athlete.

Happy for the young man, but disappointed he’s not been able to find a starting role.

It seems like it is more difficult than it should be to find the info, but I did see Haynes on the sideline and on the active roster for yesterday, correct?

Understood. But NFL has the funky rule where only 48 dress for the game.

And the crazy thing about the healthy scratches from the 53 man roster is they still get a full game paycheck.

Yes, he was in blocking for seven snaps on special teams yesterday, so he did play in the game.
Special teams keeps in the league for a long time. I mean look at Matthew Slater when he was with the Pats.

Haynes consistently played on special teams snaps this season once he got back into action after being on IR in the early part of the year. He played infrequently with the regular offense, as he was unable to beat out Anthony Bradford at RG. He was inactive for the NFC Championship Game (unusual for him), but thankfully not the Super Bowl.

The Seahawks aren't really content with Bradford despite how good the team is, so there's still opportunity for Haynes to do more with the 'Hawks next season. In fact, there was some speculation that if Bradford had trouble handing the Patriots' stunts in the Super Bowl, Haynes might see some action, as he is somewhat better at recognizing disguised pressures. It never got to that point, but stay tuned.

Some were surprised by the Bills tender of $3.5M to hold onto him. Seems crazy for the Bills not to match the Vikings offer of $800K more. Nice pay bump for Van Demark from $1M last year. A nice UConn story. A 2-star w/ next best offer from Liberty. We knew he was special when he took over as an undersized LT and pushed NFLer Peart to RT. Three NFL players on the 2019 OL - Peart, Haynes, and Van Demark. Peart just took a paycut after an injury last year, but signed w/ the Broncos for $2M.

1 Diaco recruit and two Edsall recruits if I remember right.

If you recast that 2019 schedule into the present it was a bear -- 2 Big 10 teams (Illinois and Indiana), 3 Big 12 Teams (Houston, Cincinnati, UCF), and 5 AAC teams (plus Wagner and UMass). No wonder Edsall gave up on 2020.
