I thought Haynes was pushing for the starting gig. He was getting heaps of praise all training camp. This is a completely different tone from the HC. Interesting. Still not saying he's not gonna have a future, but seems to be the complete opposite of what was being reported out of training camp

He needs to work on not getting overpowered? Pffff wtf lol
He played 15 offensive snaps against the Patriots a couple of weeks ago, and got beat badly on two of his five or six pass protection attempts. He only looked good on one pass pro play, from what I could tell reviewing the game tape. I believe he got a ludicrously low score of 18 from PFF (using its 0-100 scale) for his pass blocking that game.

The Seahawks' main problem this year has been poor guard play, so there's a real desire to see Haynes emerge as a viable starter as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, it's not happening, and he didn't even get any offensive snaps last week against the Dolphins. He must be struggling greatly in practice, because his in-game sample size has been small. The Seahawks do have a formidable defensive line, so those guys might be eating him up.

I thought Haynes looked pretty good in the preseason, regularly pushing the DLs he faced downfield during run blocking, and not getting beat while pass blocking. But those guys clearly weren't NFL starters.

Following up on my post of 9/29, Christian Haynes played quite a bit against the Lions in yesterday's MNF shootout - 36 snaps at right guard, compared to 54 by Anthony Bradford. Haynes looked a lot more ready last night than he did in week 2 against the Patriots, both to the naked eye and to the wonks at PFF who grade players.

According to SeahawksWire at USA Today Sports, both he and Bradford were credited with allowing one QB pressure, and no penalties (first time this year for Bradford). On the 0-100 grading scale, Bradford scored 67 for pass blocking (pretty good) and 31 for run blocking (his worst score of the young season), for an overall 44.7 score (lousy). Haynes, meanwhile, scored a 68 in pass blocking and a 57 in run blocking, for an overall score of 61.8. That's a big difference in favor of UConn's guy, and I saw that several Seahawks fans were clamoring for more Haynes in the postgame comments sections last night and this morning. A couple were pooh-poohing the idea of him not playing much because he was being "overpowered," which offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb had remarked on last week.

It's looking likely that we're going to see more of Christian going forward. His next game is against the Giants on Sunday in the late afternoon slot. Hopefully, he's ready to break into the starting lineup very soon.

Shortcut

-> It wasn’t an easy ask, either. Van Demark lined up across from Chiefs edge rusher George Karlaftis, a former first-round draft pick who entered the game with sacks in three of his past four games and 13 quarterback hits on the season.

Van Demark, though, more than held his own in helping the Bills to a 31-20 victory. Analytics website Pro Football Focus charged him with allowing just two quarterback hurries on 47 pass-blocking snaps.

“Very, very proud of him,” Bills quarterback Josh Allen said after the win. “Just a guy that loves football, loves his teammates. He works his tail off and he cares. He cares so much about this game. So it was very cool to see him go in there and play as well as he did.” <-

So happy to hear one of our own getting it done in his first NFLStart!
Proof that if you work hard you can make it in the NFL!
