UConn General Team Recruiting Thread

I think Nika was sort of a last minute plan B. She worked out pretty good. I'm sure there is a big guard who can shoot the 3 and pass hiding somewhere in Europe waiting for Geno's call.....

Everyone needs to take a look at not next season but the year after. We do not have KK and Ashlynn. Ice and Ayanna have red shirt years but can also decide to leave if they want to. Jana because of age and International Ball can say bye.

That leaves: Kayleigh, Sarah, Allie, Morgan, Blanca, Kelis, Gandy and Olivia. Only eight players.

No she was not. She was a late discovery by UConn, but that is quite different from being a fall back player. Similarly, stars who are recruited late because they develop late are different from fall back players.

Rumor has it that both UConn and Tenn are in the mix.
Raoul has UConn, Tenn listed as "finalists."

I don't know who "rumor" has as the favorite. We could use her as our one commitment (a post) recently messed up a knee

I have been an Addison Bjorn fan for a while. The early signing period started yesterday and I was hoping for a sent autograph from her to UConn. Then I went to the game last night and Blanca played pretty well considering it was her first game. And, Morgan was moving around with a soft cast on her foot. Who knows if she will play this year or not. All three basically play the same position. Would Addison want to be a part of this group? I would bet now that Jerzy would be the better get…

Poor us.

Say bye and what? Are we sure she isn't making a similar amount of money at UConn?

I know the money isn't the same as the men's side of things, but other schools pay far more than the WNBA for star players.

Same thing with Okeke. People discuss her option to go pro -- but if it is money that interests her most, she might do better to go to the highest bidder in college.

If you are good enough and confident enough. You aren’t concerned with competition at your position. You just beat them out and take the spot.

Jana is an international player. Her ability to earn money is quite restricted unless Congress passes new legislation.

The men's side of college basketball has dozens of European players that left pro leagues in Europe for more money in the US.

That wall is cracking. The last Tear Pao vs. US leads one to question whether the US can continue to prohibit international players from earning NIL based upon their visa status. No, it’s not a final decision, but the court has refused to grant the government summary judgment. So, the power may not depend on Congress. It MAY ultimately depend on the courts.

Stay tuned.

I highly recommend that all Wbb fans watch this video . For one thing, it looks at why UConn may have more NIL money from revenue sharing for wbb than the P4 football schools. It’s a UConn- oriented show so you guys ought to really enjoy it,

With the early signing period coming to an end we got an outstanding post player in Olivia. It’s noon and names of two others are still out there. However, UConn will need Guards coming out of the 2027 Class. So who’s on deck that we need to start putting our comments into?

Ivanna Wilson-Manyacka, Kaleena Smith, GG Banks, and Haylen Ayers are the top 4 guards in the 2027 class. All have UConn offers except Banks at this point.

I was hoping that Bjorn would pick UConn but guess not. However, I am a huge Mogan fan. Watching her before games you can see that she’s upset on not being able to play. But the team is on all cylinders and does not need her contributions this season. It may be best if she takes the year off then has three remaining years to play. Wishing you well Miss Cheli…

According to Shane Laflin's latest ESPN article published on November 21, UConn ranks eighth in recruiting for the class of 2026. I think it could well end up in the top three, or even higher, if we manage to convince Jerzy Robinson or Sara Okeke.

When we look at the article, we can see that Shane Laflin considers Jovana Popovic a 4-star player, but he refrains from giving her a ranking. Tennessee is ranked immediately behind UConn, with Oliviyah Edwards ranked second and #62 Gabrieal Minus, a 4-star player, with a score of 93. So that means he sees Jovana with at least a score of 94, since Edwards is one rank ahead of Vukosa. The 4-star players start at 18th place and end at last place, but with a score of 94, the last one is ranked #54. I conclude that she would be between 18th and 54th place, Shane Laflin doesn't want to get too involved with Jovana.

As she is playing in the US this year, he will have to do so with Sara Okeke. In the next update, her name will have to appear in the rankings, but at what position(?) Jerzy Robinson is ranked 5th, with 5 stars and a score of 97, while the top 4 have a score of 98. Prep Girls Hoop already ranks Okeke as the #1 player in Florida, just ahead of Kelsi Andrews, who is ranked 18th by ESPN and is the first 4-star player. We can therefore conclude that UConn is pursuing two 5-star players and that if they manage to sign one of them, UConn will most likely be propelled into the top three.

Both are prudent on Laflin’s part. I don’t think we know how to assess the competition in the league she plays in compared to the top level U.S. high school teams. But her perimeter shooting and ball handling skills suggest she’s the equivalent of some ranked player. So 4-star is a safe bet for now. But even safer is to refrain from announcing a specific rank for her.

From my perspective this leaves open the door to recognizing a higher rank in hindsight once we see her in D1 competition.
