UConn General Team Recruiting Thread

I have been an Addison Bjorn fan for a while. The early signing period started yesterday and I was hoping for a sent autograph from her to UConn. Then I went to the game last night and Blanca played pretty well considering it was her first game. And, Morgan was moving around with a soft cast on her foot. Who knows if she will play this year or not. All three basically play the same position. Would Addison want to be a part of this group? I would bet now that Jerzy would be the better get…
If you are good enough and confident enough. You aren’t concerned with competition at your position. You just beat them out and take the spot.

Say bye and what? Are we sure she isn't making a similar amount of money at UConn?

I know the money isn't the same as the men's side of things, but other schools pay far more than the WNBA for star players.

Same thing with Okeke. People discuss her option to go pro -- but if it is money that interests her most, she might do better to go to the highest bidder in college.
Jana is an international player. Her ability to earn money is quite restricted unless Congress passes new legislation.

The men's side of college basketball has dozens of European players that left pro leagues in Europe for more money in the US.

That wall is cracking. The last Tear Pao vs. US leads one to question whether the US can continue to prohibit international players from earning NIL based upon their visa status. No, it’s not a final decision, but the court has refused to grant the government summary judgment. So, the power may not depend on Congress. It MAY ultimately depend on the courts.

Stay tuned.

I highly recommend that all Wbb fans watch this video . For one thing, it looks at why UConn may have more NIL money from revenue sharing for wbb than the P4 football schools. It’s a UConn- oriented show so you guys ought to really enjoy it,

With the early signing period coming to an end we got an outstanding post player in Olivia. It’s noon and names of two others are still out there. However, UConn will need Guards coming out of the 2027 Class. So who’s on deck that we need to start putting our comments into?

Ivanna Wilson-Manyacka, Kaleena Smith, GG Banks, and Haylen Ayers are the top 4 guards in the 2027 class. All have UConn offers except Banks at this point.

I was hoping that Bjorn would pick UConn but guess not. However, I am a huge Mogan fan. Watching her before games you can see that she’s upset on not being able to play. But the team is on all cylinders and does not need her contributions this season. It may be best if she takes the year off then has three remaining years to play. Wishing you well Miss Cheli…

According to Shane Laflin's latest ESPN article published on November 21, UConn ranks eighth in recruiting for the class of 2026. I think it could well end up in the top three, or even higher, if we manage to convince Jerzy Robinson or Sara Okeke.

When we look at the article, we can see that Shane Laflin considers Jovana Popovic a 4-star player, but he refrains from giving her a ranking. Tennessee is ranked immediately behind UConn, with Oliviyah Edwards ranked second and #62 Gabrieal Minus, a 4-star player, with a score of 93. So that means he sees Jovana with at least a score of 94, since Edwards is one rank ahead of Vukosa. The 4-star players start at 18th place and end at last place, but with a score of 94, the last one is ranked #54. I conclude that she would be between 18th and 54th place, Shane Laflin doesn't want to get too involved with Jovana.

As she is playing in the US this year, he will have to do so with Sara Okeke. In the next update, her name will have to appear in the rankings, but at what position(?) Jerzy Robinson is ranked 5th, with 5 stars and a score of 97, while the top 4 have a score of 98. Prep Girls Hoop already ranks Okeke as the #1 player in Florida, just ahead of Kelsi Andrews, who is ranked 18th by ESPN and is the first 4-star player. We can therefore conclude that UConn is pursuing two 5-star players and that if they manage to sign one of them, UConn will most likely be propelled into the top three.

Both are prudent on Laflin’s part. I don’t think we know how to assess the competition in the league she plays in compared to the top level U.S. high school teams. But her perimeter shooting and ball handling skills suggest she’s the equivalent of some ranked player. So 4-star is a safe bet for now. But even safer is to refrain from announcing a specific rank for her.

From my perspective this leaves open the door to recognizing a higher rank in hindsight once we see her in D1 competition.

Where Popovic gets ranked is irrelevant as are the team rankings. They have nothing to do with how Popovic will play at UConn or how those teams will perform with those freshmen.

One other item of significance is Laflin's article seems to confirm the position that Jerzy is down to two, South Carolina and LSU, which had previously been reported as indirectly from a reliable source. I believed it then, and am even more convinced now after our recent signing of Popovic and Shane's comments.

On the other hand maybe the chances with Okeke are better. I saw South Carolina hosted the other big from France that many were interested in. Which of the two is better has been debated on this board before, but if South Carolina did get her, I doubt they also get Okeke so maybe our odds are looking better there.

ESPN is largely seen as the one that puts few resources into prospect rankings over on the men's side. Somehow I doubt they are putting more resources into the women's side of things. And that is for American prospects.

True - they dropped all player news and other stuff and just care about a list being generated and updated once.

ESPN treats recruiting as a check the box exercise and doubtful whoever works there does this as their only job.

Contrast to 247 or other ratings sites that are 100% ratings based and that's where we find the good information!

Shane Laflin pretty routinely puts out lots of recruiting info for ESPN.

Yes, but the rankings change once after the initial rankings. Over on the men's side we got Colben Landrew who is 40+ higher on the pro review sites but ESPN still lazilt has him in the 60s. I don't think it's any different for the women's.

They change more than once after the initial rankings. The 2026 rankings will change one more time in the Spring

Anyone have intel on this player and do you think we're done for 2026?

Historically ESPN outsourced the WBB ranking. It changed once before and it must have changed again as I see they've been removing some of the archives rankings.

I'm not sure how good the football recruiting sites have gotten. 247 has a reporter or two now but there isn't a ton of info.

Looks like a nice little player, key word being little. Quick, good ballhandler and shooter. However, I wouldn't expect UConn interest because of the depth chart being full of guards for the next 2-3 years. Kaleena Smith 2027 is the only PG on the horizon whose talent level is elite enough that GA might make room for her. So yes, I think they are done for 2026 other than waiting to see what Sara Okeke decides in the spring. If she goes elsewhere I believe GA will leave that one open slot empty for 2027 flexibility. Wilson-Manyacka and Ayers are already offered for that class and both are guards/wings.

I haven't been close attention lately, but the general rule is that sites deteriorate once bought by a major media company. With girl's basketball recruiting, you see this with Hoop Gurlz getting bought by ESPN and then dropping off entirely before Laflin started putting in some effort to at least occasionally change the rankings (he seems a bit too changeable to me but I don't follow the specifics all that closely on either side).

On the boy's side, I have heard recently regarding basketball that 247 has started to trend positive again as On3 deteriorates. The advantage on that side is that there are enough ratings sites to make up a composite ranking and get a ballpark of where players are tier wise (which is about the best you are going to do anyway -- even the coaches fail to identify talent on a regular basis). I just would prefer that the composites weigh against ESPN because their rankings lag behind the others and are based on the least amount of information.

At some point I think the girl's side will get to some kind of composite. The other sites are starting to show interest. Putting some money into something like ASGR would help.

Does anybody know when to expect the first offers for the 2028 class? Ella Peper, Chloe Johnson, Sydney Douglas will likely be among the top targets right?

Nobody will know until the players announce their offers. The school cant say anything about recruits.

I'm fully aware of that but as far as I know no recruit from the 28 class has shared a UConn offer so I was curious when we can expect the first few. We will just have to wait and see I guess.
