UConn Freshmen/Commits: C. Collier, Coombs, AEH, Gordon, Walker

Monacan won the state quarterfinals by a score of 71-32 over Charlottesville. The semifinals will be on Saturday. I believe the finals will be in Richmond on March 10. Monacan, which won last year, is likely the favorite. They are undefeated and top 16-18 nationally.
Monacan is 7th in the USA Today "expert" rankings and 16th in their computer rankings.

3/2

Charli Collier's season ends badly, Barbers Hill soundly beaten in the state semis. Collier had 22 points.

Condolences to Charli and her teammates. Hopefully, her UConn seasons will all end with wins.

I deferred driving to Richmond to watch Meg during her Monacan regular season, figuring that I could catch the state tourney. Then I found out that the quarters and semis would be in Salem/Roanoke (4 hours away) and the finals would be in Richmond, as expected, but on a date when I'm out of the country. Darn, darn, darn!

Solution: I just bought a ticket to the Jordan Brand Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on April 14. I'll get to see Megan PLUS Lexi and Mikayla. Given the location, not that far from Ossining, I bet that Andi will be there as well. I'll keep my eyes open for other Huskies.

On Thursday, Meg didn't shoot the ball great. She was 5-17 on 2-pointers and 1-5 on 3-pointers. FT shooting, which is almost always solid, was 5-6. She had 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists, 1 block, and 5 turnovers. She draws a ton of defensive attention.

Today, Meg shot 7-19 from inside the arc, 1-4 from distance, and 8-10 from the line. She added 8 boards, 4 steals, and 1 block, with only 3 TOs.

Next week, they go for their third straight Virginia championship.

I'm looking forward to watching Meg in the Jordan Brand game.

I read last year that Walker does not have an accurate outside shot. Is that true? I read it on the Boneyard.

Walker certainly has the range to make shots from the arc. While she doesn't shoot a high percentage yet, she has good shooting form and will undoubtedly improve once she arrives in Storrs.

Albertus Magnus totally outplayed Ossining the last time they played......they are a really solid team, no big stars but they are incredibly well coached and it will take a big effort to beat them...........

Agreed. Meg shoots roughly 85% at the FT line, which is a good indicator of her shooting ability. Her FG shooting is in the 40-45% range. Part of that is because she draws double and triple teams. At UConn, she will draw single coverage, learn which shots to take and which to pass up, and practice her shooting. She's the #1 recruit per most sources for a reason.

There have been "concerns" about Lexi's shooting as well. She's also only a little above 40%, but the situation is the same as with Meg. Lexi is not quite as long or quick as Meg, but she has nice form. She too will be a quality shooter at UConn.

Don't worry about Andi. She's been a shooter since at least 7th grade.
