UConn Football clearing the decks for next Coach?

DiMauro on WTIC this morning acting as an expert on all things UCONN Football. Not a good view from his perspective “ no surprise “ . Said Paul P. Was a good guy. Said the not likely any hot Assistant coach would come to the job. Blah blah blah blah. Blah

Well there you go! He appears on the former flagship station of UConn Athletics, spewing sour grapes. That station has a political bent & is no longer listened to be a majority of the State's population. (It DOES, though, get the ear of entities that wish to de-emphasize or eliminate UConn Football)

This is much ado about nothing..

1.) I think all these assistant coaches knew they weren't being retained by the school regardless, there are very few cases (and it only happens with coaches on thin ice) where the AD hires the assistant coaches.

2.) By not officially providing notice until the end of the season, the school is in effect providing them with 6 months extra salary. Otherwise the school could easily provide official notice now, force these guys to work and get nothing more at the end of 6 months from this date.

3.) Recruiting was always going to be dicey. I don't know that it was Edsall who would've clued in DiMauro in on the contract clause or other former UConn coaches who were going to have interest in recruiting UConn commits; but it was always going to come up that some recruits would be bailing when their recruiter was cut loose. It was already being used on the recruiting trail.. but having a reporter claim that it was "official" makes it more damaging.

4.) DiMauro was selected as the source for a reason, he and his anti-UConn bias would be sure to try to make this into something that was shocking and irregular. Most reporters would've ignored it for that reason.

Every big league program operates this way. I mean Warde hired Ollie and Diaco and still got the job at Michigan. AD Dave's hands were tied mostly by the BoT's who have been screwing the whole school over for decades now. The school has the money to hire and pay a coach that'll be successful, but AD Dave doesn't get the money because the BoT's are all on the jock of basketball that they fail to see that without football we are no more than a very good mid-major program.

Lol the staff already cant recruit. Have you seen the kids on the field? Why would we want anyone these guys have brought in? Good riddance.

Any indication of a recruiting #uptick for the last 11 years has been a false positive. The idea that a new staff can’t clear the bar that’s already set so low is very on brand for the Boneyard.
 
I am perpetually in limbo between amazed and bemused when a human takes time out their day to visit this board, read a thread, take the time write a response and be ignorant as some are in this thread.

How can you be interested enough in college football and more specifically UConn football and not know asst. coaches employment are tethered to the HC's employment and they will be let go as soon as the season is over?

Also include those who put finger to keyboard and type "hey losing the HC and the assistants who recruited players might impact the recruits decsion to attend UConn and re-open their recruiting".

Next thing you know they'll wank about water being wet. Every football program loses recruits when the staff that recruited them is canned.
 
I have been awful betting UCONN Football recently - particularly against a point spread. TOO much heart. But I am thinking we have a new Head Coach early - like before November.

We aren't USC. I am thinking Benedicts nature is he has already made 80% of the calls he would like to make. And has a nice targeted list TODAY

ok ... DOES THAT MEAN ... that the prospective guy isn't a Head Coach today? Maybe

I generally agree but Eddie Allen has actually done a good job with the special teams. That is the only unit that isn't broken of the 3.

Did you decide to skip all the posts in this thread, and just comment based on the writing of a hateful troll "journalist?" If you continued to read (assuming you can) you would realize that this is par for the course and not any "unprecedented" move. Due diligence, dude. Read and learn. Reading is fundamental.
 
Genius and Journalist rarely go hand in hand, and I think DiMauro is no exception. Pot stirring is so much less intellectually burdensome than ascertaining facts and providing insights.

I think the "and/or" means you need to give a combined 6 months notice/severance once a head coach is terminated. So because the university provides this notice in September, they will only need to pay 3 months of severance as they will be terminated as of 12/31/21. If we waited to provide that termination notice as of 12/31/21, they would need to pay the full 6 months severance, essentially saving 3 months worth of severance for all the coaches (unless employed for only 1 year) for something that was inevitably going to occur.
 
Mike DiMauro has been an advocate for UConn football when others were largely silent. He may be skeptical about its future now, but I have faith for now it will rebound and stay FBS.

BCIdiot has never been an advocate for anything related to UConn athletics. He only has a job by trolling fans with hateful and misleading clickbait articles bashing the University.

BCIdiot thinks he's the smartest guy in the room because he went to BC. If he was smart, he wouldn't be working for a 2nd tier newspaper.

BC students are the grade monger kids who worked their tails off to get good really grades but lacked the real brains to get to the top of the stack. They couldn’t make into an Ivy, small Ivy or other elite institution, but think they are owed something. That’s why a moron journalist feels compelled to adopt BC Genius as his appellation.

Thats too strong. I teach high school and we’ve sent many great students there who have flourished. BC is a great school overall. I still hope all their athletic teams lost every game though.

Probably right. The point as virtually none of those kids would have a chance at Harvard, MIT, Williams, or Amherst. Its just the way it is. BC is a fine school, but Holy Cross, Wellesley, and BU are roughly on the same level. I found many BC alums to be smug beyond their educational station.

They better hope hiring goes smoothly.... Imagine a scenario (can't remember who it was) where the head coach for football had just been hired for temple it think?.. left for Miami immediately?
 
Spanos has at least earned the opportunity to be in the conversation as next HC. The players seem to be responding well to him and him bringing in Mazzone has completely changed the offense. I hope he can get at least 3 wins with UMass, MTSU and Yale.
