No.. I think even suggesting to the head coach that he retain Spanos is nuts. You don't want to appear to be the meddling AD, let alone suggesting a DC who's teams have produced points allowed rankings in the bottom 10 among all FBS schools coupled with yards allowed ranks among the bottom 15. You come up with that suggestion to a coach that you're paying $3.5M for, which would be 40th among all head coaches nationally (as of last year's list, most recent 1-130 ranking I could find) and the top or second-highest (depending on what you think about Houston and their impending move to the Big XII) salary in the G5 for.
You hire the guy.. if they ask for a suggestion or if there is anyone that should be retained you can offer feedback, but otherwise you let the guy do the job (and if they are coming in without an idea of who they want as their coordinators, that would be a giant red flag).
