UConn - ECU Game Thread

Who doesn't think ECU will score again before half? Here's the call... throw towards bell.

I don't, but that's more because I want you to be wrong than the fact that it's good for UConn.

That is how Arkeel should be used Every play!!

Not a fan of punting there. Getting 3 more points would feel like a bigger deal than giving 3 up would.

Given one sure TD missed on opening play, possibly another later, still have some confidence offense can get 2-3 more TDs in 2nd.

Won't matter if D gives up another 3-4 though.

We made another QB look like Peyton Manning. It's almost impossible to be this bad at pass defense.

On our side, this is Sherriff. A couple of good things. Missed opportunities, bad interceptions and rarely a clutch play when it's needed.

Go Huskies.

The way the D is playing its more likely we would have given up 7 if we went for it and didn't get it

Halftime Thoughts:

Defense is bad all over.
As others noted in this game thread, blitzers just take a straight line to QB and run in to blockers. No nuance to their stunts. On most pass plays at least DLineman stops his rush and just stands there.
DB's are the worst we fans have seen in a long time. Bell just gets abused, they are poor at tackling and don't track the ball.
DE's are not built for a 3-3-5. Not big enough to seal the edge, they get pushed around. None of them were recruited for this defense.

Offense is a work in progress. 14 points and 225 yards of offense was a full game last season.
Shirreffs is 100% responsible for that INT.
Mensah reminds me of Todman. Patient, uses his blocks, finds a lane and then explodes. Newsome can't find holes between the tackles. Keep Newsome in the slot where he is a viable weapon.
Both the dropped snaps were on Shirreffs too.
OLine did a nice job on both the defensive offsides to give UConn a free play instead of a whistle.

This is still winnable. Need to force a TO. Unfortunately 3-3-5 has been very poor at creating pressure any where. Offenses feel comfortable running their stuff against UConn's D.

It is imperative we get 4 up front. This is an absolute nightmare. We are also getting gashed in the run. This D puts players into too many one defender tackling situations. There is zero gang tackling and guys flying to the point of attack. It is a scheme. I don't know what it takes for folks to recognize when something is failing miserably.

I notice the same thing in the secondary. There will be a live play and secondary players (mostly LB's are) are just standing in place ..... is that by design or laziness?

Every week this year we have not had the better QB. Yet it looks like this offense can make plays. With the D unable to get off the field it is adding insult to injury. Watching games yesterday everyone is lining up 4 down d lineman and 2 LB's. They also crowd the line of scrimmage more than we do. Starting the blitz 3 yards back it is easy to pick up and hard to get to the QB.

Hopefully we can keep some momentum here and maybe get a turnover. Let's go, dogs...

Never go back to that shot of the announcers. Totally empty looking stadium

I'm assuming most everyone has moved to the shade?

Worst than empty seats were the pasty Yankees wearing short sleeve shirts. Yikes!
