This is likely a replacement for that cancellation, Ole Miss probably canceled because the SEC will be moving to a 9 game conference schedule at some point. I’m sure we’re ok with it too, Duke gives us a P4 game we have a much better chance at winning. Feel like there’s been a greater emphasis on scheduling for success these next 4-5 years, creating a schedule that gives us the best chance at winning lots of games - no more buy games, lots of regional G5 we should win, and some low level P4 H/Hs (but not too many). Much improved and more balanced from when we first became an Independent, Mora and Benedict are finding the sweet spot

I'm pretty confident that you've been around long enough to remember when Iowa (Hawkeyes) were on our schedule for a home and home. That was done as a favor by Ferrentz (the games were never going to be played) to add a bit of credibility to our future schedules, giving us a bit of bargaining power to fill out fill schedules over many years.

For all we know the Ole Miss game was something similar. At the time that it was announced did their visiting the Rent make any logical sense? If nothing else I'm sure having that home game on our schedule for as long as it was there had to help a little with getting other schools to complete scheduling agreements with us.

They canceled because we dont have an on-campus stadium...

It is interesting that we are only getting ACC teams scheduled. Not sure why we can't get a Cincy or WVU on the schedule. IMO, they're not much higher in the food chain than the ACC teams we're scheduling.

I feel like one reason is Big 12 teams play a 9 game conference schedule, ACC only plays 8

The ACC should face reality and accept that they are losing teams in 3-5 years. Bring in both UConn and USF now at a steeply graduated rate. Let both programs improve by playing better competition and maintaining consistent schedules. When realignment occurs you are not scrambling to replace 2-4 teams. You already have 2 vetted teams in house.

We are all being quiet for the most part because we know the drill but…..we are scheduling a lot of ACC schools and our recruiting is looking like it has taken another big leap this offseason. Why? I don’t know.

Yep. Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team is playing 3 Big 12 teams this year, BYU, Kansas and Arizona. Not sure if that means anything, but interesting nonetheless

The Huskies announced the news in a release on Thursday. Sources indicate the Rebels were looking to get out of the series as well as they try to best fill out future schedules of an every-year College Football Playoff contender.

Ole Miss was originally scheduled to head to Connecticut on September 11, 2027. The Huskies were going to follow with a trip to Oxford on November 18, 2028. They’ve already substituted Duke for the Rebels, while Ole Miss is considering multiple options but hasn’t settled on a replacement yet. <-

I wasn’t implying an ACC invite. I was saying we are getting a lot of good home and homes scheduled with ACC schools and we are recruiting well. It seems like we have some newfound swagger and appeal on multiple fronts.

The Ole Miss cancellations represented swagger lost. UConn wasn't good enough for them. The OOC scheduling seems to have switched models. They want true challenges now. Even stretch goals if possible.

Absolutely not. That thinking is like the farmer who entered his mule in the Kentucky Derby. Didn’t expect to win but thought he might benefit from the company.

We replaced Ol’ Miss with another P4 program not Central Connecticut. It happens to be one we want to be competitive with, and if we do beat them this place will go bonkers. To me it makes zero sense to be playing team that are going to blow us away. We don’t benefit. They don’t benefit. Our current scheduling model makes a ton of sense. Mid-tier P4s and regional G5s with the occasional WAC for interest. Football is different than basketball, baseball or hockey. Differences in size, speed, athleticism matter more and one guy shooting the lights out, or throwing a no hitter or standing on his head in goal doesn’t change the outcome like it does in those sports.

Last year was fun because winning is fun. Going bowling is fun. And it developed interest and upgraded recruiting. I don’t know why some of you guys don’t get it.

Ideally, the 2 Techs are added to future schedules (Georgia and Virginia). Smack in prime recruiting regions for UConn with many alumni, Huskies fans and CT natives in ATL and close enough in CLT, Research Triangle, NOVA, and DC metro.

UConn needs to play nice with everyone. Because you never know what role they would play in their future. Not necessarily Ole Miss…but someone in the AD department may be part of a school or conference that will impact UConn’s future.

I looked it up because I was sure you were exaggerating. You did. You rounded up. You should be fair to Ole Miss and acknowledge that the most recent set of published stats indicate its acceptance rate is 97.78%. Unbelievable. No flagship state university should be in the "if you can fill out the application" category.

That is extremely high and I won't spend much time on it. Maybe there are far more kids in Mississippi looking to go to school out of state than out of state kids looking to go to school in Miss. I think back in the day getting accepted at UConn in state was a given even if it meant going to a branch and starting with a different major. That was the purpose of the flagship U.

Miss has a smaller population than CT and has 2 P2 programs. I notice that Ole Miss is the flaghip but Miss State is the Land Grant U
