Honestly, maybe I’ve just been an addled Cameron Brink fan for too long, but the most impressive stat to me is Edwards’ 0 fouls. To post up that hard all game on both ends while not once drawing a foul while registering a double double takes supreme discipline. She’s long been one of my favorite Huskies of the new guard and tonight showed why.
It’s been a long road for Aaliyah from her freshman and sophomore years when she was a “fouling machine” who frequently ran down the court without looking up, running over opposing players who simply stood in front of her to draw fouls.

Oh-Man!

I was getting ready to give your post a thumbs up. . . Then I read your last sentence

Q, Ash, KK, Ice, & Paige is what's different from last year. At the very least.
We had nobody last year that had the speed that this young lady has. Her ability to get up the court and penetrate was not there last year.
You can read the first paragraph regarding Bueckers.

Interesting stat: Shade is 34-45 from 2-point range, a ridiculous .756. (I am sure her 3-point percentage is going to go up.)
To me, she’s the biggest difference in the team. She’s been rock solid. She’s not flashy, and probably won’t be anyone’s superstar, but she’s a huge part of this team.

It was a tremendous performance by the team, but it's hard for me to feel anything right now but a deep sadness and empathy for Aubrey.

I know this is just a game and the world is a whole lot bigger than basketball, but nonetheless I feel the emotional wallop.

:(

Totally. What I've always loved about her was how physical and gritty she is - always giving 100 percent. But it was often wild and undisciplined, like a bull in a China shop. Stat lines like hers tonight compared to her underclassman years are honestly about as good a pitch for playing for Geno as you can find. He's truly in a league of his own in the way he coaches up his players over 4 years in Storrs.

Too bad Brink didn’t go for Geno’s pitch. ;)

Damn shame that Aubrey suffered her injury. I'm done thinking that all these injuries are bad luck/flukes or whatever other phrase you want to use. Something is very wrong within the program as far as strength and conditioning goes. These are premier athletes that are going down with significant knee injuries , almost every one via non-contact. Other programs have had players suffer knee injuries but not on the same scale and as often as UConn.

So when Aubrey tore her ACL as a sophomore at Ossining HS, was that also attributable to something being wrong with UConn’s program?

Please don’t start this absurd finger pointing. It serves no purpose other than causing further anxiety to people who already feel terrible for Aubrey.

Few thoughts
  • 40+ win on the road vs top 25 team !!!
  • I thought the defense was the difference tonight. Creighton was just rushed enough to shoot poorly
  • Terrible luck for Aubrey. Can't imagine she will back until at least March (best case)
  • Paige and AE are playing like AA's
  • KK and Shade are getting better every game..
  • I'll say it again, we are really going to need Ice to step up and no more than ever. Honestly, I would have expected her to be further along at this point
SLY63- - -Ice's development was really held back by missing last year! She hasn't gotten used to the speed and aggression of the college game yet! But tonight she looked much better playing not thinking!

After decisive victories over the two best teams in the conference, is there much doubt that UCONN will at worst have only one more loss (vs. SC) by tourney time?
After losing the third best player on the team, likely for the season, I’m not sure we should be predicting an undefeated conference run, not to mention a sure win over Notre Dame. Aubrey is a catastrophic loss and while I too am confident this team will rise to the occasion, I guess I’m not quite as confident. I do hope you are right though.

Most concerning is it kills our depth and the rest available for players like Paige and Aaliyah. They are really gonna have to rejigger lineups again to address this huge hole. Deves rating doesn’t begin to cover it. Heartbroken for Aubrey and the whole team.

I agree. However the bad thing about the use of this feature is that if the ignored party starts a thread, you won't see it while logged into the site. I know that we can just look at the threads prior to logging in but still, it's a pet peeve.

Both played well tonight. Ice was doing a lot of the dirty work and making plays
Agree about ICE, some good passes, nice rebounds.... just cut down on those
three pointers (you can be open, but you don't have to DO what
the opponents want you to do...!). But, ICE is slowly getting there, I see
a light at the end of the tunnel.(one must be hopeful!!).. And also some good light in Aubrey's
dark tunnel, at least in the future.

A great game , tough D and we can score. I hope Griff somehow just has a sprained knee but fear worse. I was not encouraged when Creighton trainer stated her knee was unstable. We will be down to 9 players and 7 core. We will have a hard time repkacing Griffs energy, rebounding and defense..
