If Tim should ever get to the Major Leagues, at 14 letters he would tie Jarrod Saltalamacchia for longest last name for any one to ever play in MLB. Obviously, that possibility is a bit down the road.
 
Talked to someone from the school told me BC and Georgia Tech were both trying to get him as long as a number of other schools

St. John's Prep 3B Mike Yarin commits to UConn

This left-handed hitter has major juice in his hands. The ball jumps off his bat, he drove it well to both gaps.
At first base, his footwork needs improvement. He has soft hands and can catch the ball, but needs to have his feet in the correct place. If he gets his body into better shape, it will allow him to do some serious damage offensively.

2018 recruit Pat Winkel is on the roster for the Area Code Games Northeast team playing in Long Beach next week.
Only UConn recruit, and 1 of only 2 players from the class of 2018 (rest are all 2017).
 
Perfect Game is now showing 2018 SS/RHP Will Lucas of Fairfield Prep as a UConn Commit.
Lucas is ranked #
Class is shaping up nicely. PBR has the following rankings (for what they're worth):
1. Winkel (C) #2 NE/ #48 National
3. Burrows (RHP) #11 NE / #241 National
2. Yarin (3B) #16 NE / # 254 National
4. Lucas (SS/RHP) #18 NE / # 244 National
4. Pfaffenbichler (RHP) #28 NE.
 
It's cool that Lucas committed. If anyone remembers the Fairfield LL team that went to the World Series in 2012, he was their best player. Even threw a no hitter for them against Indiana. Awesome to see a prospect with potential like that stay on track and get to the point where he's good enough to play for us.
 
Penders has quietly been doing a really good job of bringing home high-caliber CT talent from that part of the state. Fairfield County kids tend to be predisposed towards programs like Duke and UNC, but the more inroads we can make against them, the better.

That more or less confirms the good feeling I was getting about UConn recruiting over the next couple of years. In addition, I've read some good things about the recruiting class that is due to show up in Storrs the year before for the 2018 season, with players like Christian Fedko and Luke Broadhurst. Have you seen any rankings on that class?

With the younger Fedko committing in the same class as Will Lucas, it looks like we'll have some really solid infield depth for the first time in a while. Granted this past year was a success overall, but not having one single backup infielder able to play was a pretty notable detriment.
 
Prep Baseball Report also lists Adam Schwartz as a right handed pitcher. At any rate, Jim Penders and his staff seem to be striking a nice vein of recruiting talent from Pennsylvania, with the Fedko brothers, Angus Mayock, and now Adam Schwartz.

As far as infield depth, it certainly looks like UConn will have no worries in that department in the coming years. That is indeed a welcome relief from what we saw last year. The Huskies have so many recruits coming in over the next couple of years that are labeled as either middle infielders or third basemen that I expect some of them will be shifted to the outfield, as Jon Testani and John Toppa have been in recent years. There is certainly nothing unusual in baseball with that sort of thing.
