If we eventually join the Big 12, do you all think that would have a positive effect on baseball recruiting?

We've already made some inroads in the last 10 years, but there's still this whole class of player in Connecticut that it feels like is going to pick an ACC school or Vanderbilt over us 95% of the time (Winkels being the chief outliers).

Think Matt Scott at Stanford, Chad Knight at Duke, Jake Deleo at Georgia Tech, Langhorne who went to Vandy initially, etc. And yes, not only it, but I am talking a lot about Fairfield County, as all the above guys are from there.

Those are the guys we're going to have a great shot at keeping in-state if we're able to give them power conference baseball, imo.

Probably don't need to elaborate on this as we all here already know it, but Connecticut punches well above its weight when considering location and size, in terms of baseball talent. If we can keep even more of those players, and the best of those players, consistently at home... it's a dream scenario.

Coach Penders in a number of interviews in the past has mentioned more than once hoping to keep the the best baseball players in the state and hopefully bring them to Storrs to play. He has mentioned how he thinks such a team would be one that would likely make June trips to Omaha for the NCAA Tournament.

By leaps and bounds. 1000%
Thought folks might say this, and I agree.

Selfishly, as an appreciator of all UConn teams -- but particularly hardcore fan of HookC -- I am pulling hard for us to join the Big 12. I know it wouldn't come without some very real drawbacks, but damn, it feels like it could really supercharge an already thriving HookC program.

Will all be moot, of course, if we never get an invite.

Cameron Mayer RHP Graduate Transfer from Tufts (D3) will be playing at UConn next year.

Cameron Mayer's Twitter page appears to shows him playing for UConn in the 2024 season.

Mayer's info from the Tufts baseball website:

New UConn additions for the D1Baseball.com Transfer Portal listings. In addition to the players previously mentioned who are transferring to UConn, D1Baseball.com now lists George Welch of Southern New Hampshire and Cameron Mayer of Tufts as transferring to UConn.

Owen Norrell is a high school Class of 2024 LHP from Austin, Texas. Not the usual high school recruiting territory for UConn baseball, that's for sure.

Can’t help but wonder if MacDonald shared some insider info about UConn’s future conference…? Texas… ya know?

No real surprise here. He’s likely a high draft pick and he’s leverage it against big NIL money to fall back on. Smart move on his part.

I had thought that Anthony Belisario was coming to Storrs for the coming school year. However, there are a couple of tweets and other info out there that make him out as a High School Class of 24, including the above tweet. It would seem Belisario is still a year away from arriving at UConn and joining the baseball team.

Bryce Detwiler, INF/RHP, High School Class of 2025. Incoming UConn freshman Tyler Minick went to the same high school.
