Men UConn Baseball and the transfer portal

Brett Davino, who did not get any playing time during his freshman season with UConn baseball, has transfered to Stony Brook.

Evan Menzel INF from Coventry played at Maine this past season entered the portal. Wonder if the staff goes after him.

UConn players new to the D1Baseball.com Transfer Tracker listing:

Hector Alejandro
Tom Ellisen

I thought Alejandro had used up his college eligibility, but guess that was not correct.

Aidan Daugherty as well. Prety sure Abbadessa and Macarthur are on their way too.

This transfer portal from the D1Baseball.com website is not the official transfer portal, but it does report players who show up in the official transfer portal. I would imagine if Dougherty is now in the official transfer portal, he will soon appear in this transfer portal listing. I would certainly miss Dougherty should he end up leaving UConn baseball.

Should mention that while most players who end up in the transfer portal end up leaving their previous team, but there are a few occasions where players do return to their previous team.

he himself posted it on twitter/X

Reminder - long time Board policy… Unless transfers are listed in the Portal, announced by the player, the school, or a reliable member of the media, it’s speculation.

Daugherty and Macarthur both had good years and were playing most of the time, and would presumably be playing every day next year. Why would they be looking?
I don't understand the MacArthur move either. Perhaps he wants to go back to California or he is concerned about less playing time once Maddix Dalena returns from wrist injury.

It’s early but if those two hitting portal could be a pretty substantial makeover of the roster. Portal hasn’t officially opened but if I were to guess there will be a substantial amount that will follow

I wouldn’t call either of them “made men”. They had struggles at points in the year. Maybe they want more of a guarantee for ABs next year, maybe they want to be closer to home. I don’t see either of them as moving to a bigger program that can pay them. Both are good ballplayers, but one has little power, the other has power, but not enough to anchor a 1B/Dan Hurley spot.

I am assuming all of this is legit and their intention is to leave from this thread. Nice players, solid contributors.

I didn't think the team was that far off. Pitching seemed to be the main problem with injuries and guys like Cooke and Gabe not being the pitchers we thought they would be. No ace on the staff.

Injuries, short term and long term also affected UConn position players as well. Late in the season there just were not that many players who were available off the bench.

Except for the top of the order, everything seemed mediocre

Position bench players was basically limited to 1 utility player, 1 OF and a back up catcher.

Pitching was narrowed down to just a few bullpen guys who could get outs. Pudvar stepped up as the ace but removed him from a solid bullpen role. Shaw filled that void and then some. But the GVE and Cooke situation was a snowball effect. Early season injuries to arms reduced depth and squeezed us even more.

Suchy seemed poised to join Pudvar as a dependable starter but then was injured. That really hurt. Tommy was too inconsistent.
