Men UConn Baseball and the transfer portal

Pretty sure his motivation was to go back to the West Coast, so not sure he was poached.

In addition, Maddix Dalena will probably be back from his injury next season and might take over at 1B. Also, rosters being reduced to 34 players next season could be an influence on so many UConn players being in the transfer portal.

I fully don’t understand the implications with the players that are grandfathered in.

Was rated the #2 recruit in NH last year (the #1 recruit went to Vandy, a guy right below him was drafted out of high school, and two others committed to BC and Penn State). A huge year at SHNU (1.064 OPS!) likely means we won a recruiting battle here.

This is a captain obvious take, but I would like to see some pitching.

Jackson Marshall, 6’8, 260 (1B/SNHU) hit .337 w/ 15 HRs as a freshman. Won the Futures League HR Derby last summer.

Last summer the Futures League HR Derby was part of the Futures League All Star game stuff which was held in Norwich last year. My wife and I attended the All Star game stuff, and saw Marshall win the HR Derby. He was big and impressive at that event, that is for sure.

Don't we have another really big freshmen 1B coming in next year also.

Two other SNHU commits:

Nater Wachter (OF) - 2 years of eligibility. Was the NE10 rookie of year in 2023. Brother of former Tulane pitcher Jonah.
Austin Trumpour (RHP) - 1 year of eligibility. 80k to 17bb in 73.1 up this season.
… so we now have the NE10 Rookie of the Year for the last two years and the NE10 Pitcher of the Year (Marshall/Wachter/Trumpour). SNHU had a nice little team.

-> Marshall is the second-straight SNHU player to win Rookie Hitter of the Year in the Northeast Division, following his teammate Nater Wachter. He hit .347 at the plate and ranked third in the NE10 in home runs (14), RBI (53) and total bases (114), while tying for fourth in hits (59).<-

So far UConn has 9 transfers that have been reported on these threads that are coming to the team for next season.

Here is the list of the transfers that have been reported:

Chase Taylor - OF - JUCO transfer from Los Mendanos
AJ Soldra - OF - JR - Seton Hall
Evan Menzel - INF - SO - Maine
Peyton Jemison - 3B - JR - Mercy University
Jackson Marshall - 1B - SO - Southern New Hampshire
Chris Polemeni - OF - JR - College of Staten Island

Tristan Aasland - RHP - JUCO transfer from Bellevue College
Joe Pitts - RHP - JUCO Transfer from Columbia Basin College
Joe Talarico - RHP - JUCO Transfer from Santa Barbara City College.

Summer is a big time for baseball players committing to college, so we will see if UConn baseball gets more players coming into the program. That would also include freshmen coming into the program as well.

SNHU RHP Austin Trumpour?

SNHU RHP Austin Trumpour?

I just did a quick look on the internet, and I didn't find anything about him coming to UConn. Of course I imagine it is quite possible that @BaseballDog may have some other info on Austin Trumpour that I don't know about yet.

C/OF Steve Thomas (Chadds Ford, PA) from D3 Catholic University by way of University of Maryland, has committed.

One year of eligibility remaining. Set program record for hits and runs scored at Catholic U during 2025 campaign. He was on the roster (but did not play) of the 2022 Maryland team that UConn beat in the College Park regional.

Steve is currently playing for the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League.

You go Mr. Thomas: “…fluent in Python and Matlab”.

According to the above transfer tracker, Grant MacArthur is moving to Pacific in the West Coast Conference. He is moving to a school that is closer to his home area, that is for sure.

And Aidan Dougherty is moving to Washington University, also closer to his home area.
