Sorry for the long message in advance lol.

Ok, seeing we’re a month away from first pitch I thought I’d give my prediction/ thoughts on what I wanted the lineup to look like on opening day and throughout the season, so here it is. I’ve been pretty bullish on Carter Groen and Aidan Dougherty this winter and that’s why I have them starting. Also outside of Cooke and Gabe presumably starting Fri and Sat, then Brady getting the 9th, I have no clue what’s going on with pitching. But seeing how good Hector and Gio did this summer in Norwich I think Hector can work his way into a mid-week or even Sunday role and Gio could be a solid pen arm but who knows haha. I would definitely like to hear from you guys in here and gauge where everyone is at. I know a couple of you have seen these guys whether, it’s been at summer ball or during the fall. so I would just like to know what you guys think/ saw and any changes you would make. I’m open to all the info about the players I can get!! I’m just trying to get into the baseball thought because I’m excited once again for what’s going to be another great HookC Season!! OMAHA SOON!!!

Edit: Completely forgot Garbinski was out this year

SHPUR CF
BILLER RF
MINNICK 3B
DALENA 1B
MACARTHUR DH
GARBO C
PADILLA SS
DANIELS 2B
DOUGHERTY/GROEN RF

I agree with the weekend starters. Kyle Peters and Suchy are guys that could end up as a weekday starters along with Schild.whoever is not starting of those 3 will be long guys out of the pen. I like Abbadessa ,Hamberger and Finn to bridge to Brady. Wolff and Galusha are power arms that if they can throw strikes could make this bullpen have incredible depth.

My guess is that Dalena will be at 1B, Daniels at 2B, Padilla at SS, and Minick at 3B to start the season. I expect Shpur will be in CF, not sure about the rest of the outfield. Garbowski at catcher. Expect Cooke, Van Emon, and Ellison to get the first shot at the weekend starting rotation, with Afthim the closer in the bullpen.

Many new names in the lineup to me and I do follow the team fairly closely during the season.

Who do you think will have the most impact of players Dougherty, Groen and Biller?

The online UConn baseball roster now has 45 players listed on it. Drew Kron is no longer listed on the roster.

I like Biller. reminds me of Zach Bushling the way he plays.
Thanks. I was comparing some stats between Biller and Groen which surprised me. Biller is smaller at 5'10" 180 lbs while Groen is 6'3" 205. But Biller had 17hrs at LMU to Groen's 4 at Iona last season.

Relatively comfortable with the lineup, the weekend starters and the closer but man, I see much, much, much less depth in pitching than I'm used to. At least in terms of arm's we've seen accomplish something. We better be getting a heck of a lot of deep starts from our weekend starters if we're going to be anywhere near as good as we've become used to.

We usually somehow make it work. They’ll certainly be tested by our OOC slate before the conference play begins.

Lineup looks extremely athletic and multifaceted. Strong bench, bat wise. Wish there were more than nine spots in the lineup. My prediction is Doherty somehow gets a lot of playing time. Groen has historically struggled against high-end pitching so I’m gonna need to him perform to believe he can compete at this level. Skeptical but would love to be proven wrong.

Hector Alejandro had an interesting summer at Norwich in the Futures League, which included a complete game no hitter. However, it is important to remember that the Futures League is at a lower level than the Cape Cod League and the New England League. The Futures League has a lot of freshman and sophomore college players in it, along with some players who have just graduated from high school. Alejandro is a Senior at UConn. Still it will be interesting to see if he plays a bigger role on the UConn baseball pitching staff this coming season than he has in the past after having an interesting summer pitching for Norwich.

I agree there are some unproven arms but with 27 pitchers on the roster and only 12 pitchers last year threw more than 10 innings. I'm sure there will be 12 you can count on. Might take a month or so to determine who shows up when the lights are on but as far as depth and arm talent I think this could end up being the deepest staff they've had in a while.
