Men UConn Baseball 2025

I'm inclined to think that at this point that Cooke, Van Emon, and Ellisen will be the weekend starting pitchers at the beginning of the season. We'll see how it all goes.
I agree to start the year. Cayden Suchy and Kyle Peters are guys that could push there way into the weekend rotation. 24 healthy pitchers on the roster so the competition for meaningful innings will be intense.

I love listening to these preseason interviews done by Chris Jones. This weekend Van Emon will be the Friday starting pitcher, followed by Cooke and Ellisen the next couple of games.
Really high praise for Suchy in this interview as well. Mentioned that he is the closest freshman to an immediate contributor since Feole and could have been a weekend starter from day 1 if needed.

A lot of good stuff expected from Ben Schild as well if he stays healthy.

It’s rather amazing at the health or lack thereof in the pitching ranks. One kid is already out for the year many are trying to work their way back. Even Mac mentions how they seem to recruit kids with injuries and can’t ever seem to get them on track. Fall was a long time ago so for kids to still have lingering effects it’s surprising.

Two numbers jumped out. We gave up 28 free 90s and only got 16, and were outhomered 5 to 1. If you are getting substantially outhomered, you can’t be giving up 4 more free 90s per game and have a chance to win.
To me it was Delena's 9 Ks. Between that and his GDP, thats 13 ABs with 11 outs made out of the 4 hole. It will be huge to get him seeing the ball better this weekend.

I agree but at least Dalena got a nice hit in the ninth in his last AB. Hope he is turning the corner.

I'm inclined to think that it might be best to move Dalena lower in the order until he becomes more consistently productive with his offense.

This gives good perspective on the defense and pitching woes from the past weekend. Not getting outside to catch fly balls hopefully can account for the poor plays from Dougherty and Biller. That said, it is UConn baseball. We are used to good defense and pitching and hopefully we will see all 3 phases improve immensely against FAU.

I wasn't surprised that Stetson won since they are from Florida but Mizzou and Penn State face the same challenges as UConn.
