UConn Announces Jason Candle as New Head Football Coach (Updated)

This tweet might even be more important than the Candle tweets. A guy that covers college football for something called the "NIL Wire" mentioning that UConn is increasing our NIL pool and revenue share yet again, on top of a robust salary pool for staff.

I don't know much about Candle other than what I've read over the last 48 hours, admittedly. But if he's as solid as coach and recruiter as I've heard, and if he has the resources to do it even better now, we're gonna punch some people in the mouth
I liked Cahill's trajectory and Huff's resume a little better but he sounds like a solid hire and hopefully we'll find Mora can't hold a Candle to him.

As to Cahill and Huff, I have to admit I thought we made a mistake hiring Jim Calhoun instead of Mitch Buonaguro........😎

Does getting coach Candle come with getting the Italian Bowl??? If so this is an absolute win!

Time will tell, but I'm thrilled over this hire. I think he's the perfect candidate for the job. We could've had a splashier new hire with someone with an NFL experience, but like Belichick they could've come in and had to disconnect with players.

This is a coach that had to recruit to bring top-notch players to the Mac -not easy I'm sure. Now he's on a bigger stage with more NIL money and perhaps a chip on his shoulder as well.

I say full steam ahead - great hire and let's see what next year brings!

"the program has not had a losing season in any of his ten years at the helm."

Seriously, I love the hire for UConn and it means bowl games forever.

But hearing, "never had a non-winning season" falls flat in these parts due to Mike Tomlin's lack of success in playoffs over the past decade.

Yes, I recognize college FB is different from pro. But the phrase is nails on a chalkboard at this point in Pittsburgh.

I do hope he keeps Sammis. I don't want our HC taking complete charge of either offense or defense. That's what OCs and DCs are for. There's a ton of other things an HC needs to manage.

Dig every bit of this. Will not be out of his element in any way, can hit the ground running. Only question is DC/OC and hopefully keeping Sammis at least to preserve a good O-line.

I'm curious what defense will look like.

Candle is supposedly an offensive mind, so whatever DC we hire (or retain) is going to need to be a talent. The DC at Toledo was brilliant--we gotta replicate that.

Fortunately very few of us live in Pittsburgh
