UConn Announces Jason Candle as New Head Football Coach (Updated)

It’s fun being Sicilian, I was at a family wake in Jersey on Friday and people tell stories. I had no idea my cousin, who is a little bit older, helped an ill Uncle collect on numbers when he was 12/13. He did not know what to do with the money he was making so he would hide his profits in his Mom’s clothes and pocket book. She would find it and think she forgot about it. His Dad eventually got wise to the scheme and shut it down, but only after buying a car with the profits. LOL
This. I can't tell you over the years how many stories I've heard about my grandfather and the kindness he extended to various people some family, some not. Same thing about my dad. It's always fascinating to see them through other people's eyes.

My cousin worked for H-P and a business trip he went on was to Roma. We have relatives nearby, so my cousin flew to Roma. (My great grandfather had to leave Italy in a hurry as he had a price on his head by two people, Mussolini was one for speaking against him. The other was his brother for getting his wife pregnant. Yes it's in the family tree.)

Landing in Roma, the family greeted him. Drove him to Roma to the hotel, then drove him to the farm (they own a vineyard near Rome), they killed a sheep, put it in the back of a Lamborghini (found out it was a LM-1) and drove it to the family's apartment in Rome. Triple parked, took the sheep up and cook it and had a party.

The LM-1 was parked at the curb after the party. They still had to remove a few cars to get my cousin to the hotel. My cousin had a blast with our Italian side of the family.

Boy, we must be looking great if in a new coach thread we are talking about Italy, pizza and other things. As I said before, in DB we trust...and I think JC is a GLAND SLAM!!
I love how gracious Italians are. Even distant family that I had not previously met went out of their way, treating us like the proverbial prodigal son. For that matter, even "strani" were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Definitely a different culture than the northeast.

I don’t remember the Bernice at Shady Glen but my go to was always the cheeseburger, shake and onion rings.

So then it's been a while for you. I took my wife and kids a few years ago and they were able to see my maternal grandmother before she passed away. There's something magical about having 4 generations inside a residence, so much love to feel. I used to tell them how much I loved seeing the Alps from my nonna's condo in Torino. I'm glad they and my nonna got to have that memory.

If you wait for the right time, it'll never come. Give in to spontaneity, make the trip, reconnect with your heritage, enjoy a wonderful adventure with your beloved wife, and then come back home and watch us fight for another bowl in 2026!
On a trip almost exactly ten years ago we decided to visit Milan for a couple days (from what I've seen, it's the only place in Italy I could stay for any extended period). It was setup with Christmas decorations throughout the streets and the appearance was somewhat similar to how I would have imagined Manhattan in December in the late 1800's.

One thing I found amusing was the street carts that sold polenta. There were also a couple that sold chestnuts.

Who ate that? Are they still alive?
I grew up eating the Bernice Special - that was my reward for getting good grades. If I got all A’s, I got a hot fudge sundae, too

The thing about Shady Glen is that the portions are smaller than most restaurants. It’s not a half pound burger, it’s a quarter pound. A small ice cream is 1/4 cup scoop.

Well as long as he doesn’t talk about winning breakfast, fishcakes or getting an endorsement from the CtHigh school Coaches. I’m feeling pretty good
Don't forget energy vampires and trophies with St Cloud State.

There's probably five people here with any idea what the you're saying.
I'm saying alot:
He won't be a jumper
He will stay the course
He will be successful enough that "the Ohio State University" would want him

As many here hope, he will think enough of what he has in Storrs to turn them down ala Geno, Calhoun, Hurley, Morrone, Baylock and all of the successful lifers who chose to stay in Storrs.

Enjoy Sunday in the glow of success and satisfaction. Tomorrow, back to the battle against the Evil P2 Empire(which we desperately would like to be part of!!

Then say Ohio State University. Obscure initials do little more than support Google.

UConn is not an easy job. Your reputation is at stake. Guessing he is driven by the challenge and underdog and chip on shoulder. Hope they can beat the better resourced teams.

IIRC there was a Nike missile battery nearby...

That would be a sad reflection on the board if it were true.

It would have been more defensible should he have more properly referred to them as anOSU.

I’ve been eating the Bernice (although I was unaware of the name) for over 40!years and I’m still kicking. The cheese was always so good. But as others have said, the portions are small and a bit pricey.

People love their Cole Slaw as well. I brought a big tub to a family picnic and it was a big hit.
