UConn Announces Jason Candle as New Head Football Coach (Updated)

As a Sicilian, I can safely say that you are off your rocker and that you've never tried real Sicilian pizza from a real Sicilian. By the way, I'm pretty sure that Stinger is Sicilian too, so... if you find a horse's head in your bed tonight... not my problem...
I find it hilarious people would be upset someone prefers a particular style of pizza over another. I sing the praises of Connecticut pizza everywhere I go, it is the best in the world. Plenty of blow back. Whatever.
The last horse head that ended up in my bed I had mounted and sent back with a note “Bless your heart”

We know the guy has done more with less and floated near the top of the pack as division champions and won 2 conf championships. The question is can he do more with more.
well, in these discussions, it hasn't been brought up that Mora didn't exactly come in with a stellar record either.

He was fired from his last job and his coaching gigs in the NFL were largely unremarkable.

But I think we would agree that he came in and did a good job. I will even say he was a great hire.

With Candle you've got someone who's used to doing more with less. I mean the Mac can't be easy to recruit to and yet this guy put a ton of people in the NFL and won some conference championships. I'm gonna go out on limb and say he's the perfect hire.

For those trying to throw shade on his hire, he's never had a losing record, and he's been at the same place for 16 years. He does a good job at UConn. The only reason I see him leaving is if his kids are home sick and he wants to move his family back.

He isn't listed as a 4* anywhere. He's a 3*. Around Farrar's rank. I see him in the 1700-1900 range nationally, whatever that means.
We already have (2) 3 stars. Why pay for another one.

I haven't been since I was 6 years old. The wife and I want to get back there next year if we can.

I should try to make that happen and get back in time to watch Candle's first undefeated season as the coach of UConn Football...
So then it's been a while for you. I took my wife and kids a few years ago and they were able to see my maternal grandmother before she passed away. There's something magical about having 4 generations inside a residence, so much love to feel. I used to tell them how much I loved seeing the Alps from my nonna's condo in Torino. I'm glad they and my nonna got to have that memory.

If you wait for the right time, it'll never come. Give in to spontaneity, make the trip, reconnect with your heritage, enjoy a wonderful adventure with your beloved wife, and then come back home and watch us fight for another bowl in 2026!

Just finished reading a 14-page thread on the Toledo board dating back to 2021 titled, “FIRE JASON CANDLE.”

That sure was something.
What was the main beef?

There are some of those in every fan base. I still remember a Boneyarder posting that we should fire Hurley at halftime of our first round game in the 2023 tournament.

And as far as Mora goes. Say what you want He rebuilt a very sad program to which we should be truly thankful
I said he was a professional. He came into and brought the program into the 2020’s. You almost had the feeling that he would do what needed to be done to straighten things out, then ride off into the sunset ala the Lone Ranger. Everyone needs to admit that the program he left us is in far superior shape than what he found. I was hoping for 6-6 in a couple of years. We have the possibility of winning more games than any UConn team ever this year. I don’t know his name, but he left this silver bullet😁

I have a great Sicilian pizza recipe I use from Tony Gemignani. It’s in his pizza bible, my Mom loves it. I use a poolish (starter) I’ve had since 2012. I made the starter from a dough I ‘acquired’ in the Arthur Avenue area. It’s available for sharing if anyone wants some.

As far as the horses head, I am a big animal lover, so no animals will be harmed in the process. We will employ other methods of getting folks to agree with our point of view, otherwise we take the canoli’s.

It’s fun being Sicilian, I was at a family wake in Jersey on Friday and people tell stories. I had no idea my cousin, who is a little bit older, helped an ill Uncle collect on numbers when he was 12/13. He did not know what to do with the money he was making so he would hide his profits in his Mom’s clothes and pocket book. She would find it and think she forgot about it. His Dad eventually got wise to the scheme and shut it down, but only after buying a car with the profits. LOL

My cousin worked for H-P and a business trip he went on was to Roma. We have relatives nearby, so my cousin flew to Roma. (My great grandfather had to leave Italy in a hurry as he had a price on his head by two people, Mussolini was one for speaking against him. The other was his brother for getting his wife pregnant. Yes it's in the family tree.)

Landing in Roma, the family greeted him. Drove him to Roma to the hotel, then drove him to the farm (they own a vineyard near Rome), they killed a sheep, put it in the back of a Lamborghini (found out it was a LM-1) and drove it to the family's apartment in Rome. Triple parked, took the sheep up and cook it and had a party.

The LM-1 was parked at the curb after the party. They still had to remove a few cars to get my cousin to the hotel. My cousin had a blast with our Italian side of the family.

Boy, we must be looking great if in a new coach thread we are talking about Italy, pizza and other things. As I said before, in DB we trust...and I think JC is a GLAND SLAM!!

I read through the Candle to UConn thread on the Toledo board. Honestly, they seem less reactionary than we do. Personally, I question their fandom.

Not a lot of love for our football program or the Connecticut area. Some decent amount of smack being thrown around because our stadium is off campus. I guess that's to be expected.

I love Apizza and I try all styles, when I travel for work. I like most, but New Haven is my go to. I have a wood fired oven at home and I’ve been focused on perfecting Napoletana recently. I’ve done Apizza at the Rent with a grill. The one thing I refused to try was Pasta in Cincinnati. Ketchup? disgusting…
