UConn and the 2018 AAC Baseball Tournament (Updated ~ Check Schedule Change for UConn games)

Dunlop over Kersten? I'm guessing Penders decided he'd like to save Kersten for the final, and he could always throw Kersten against USF in the next game if we lost today anyway. But that would then mean the final is a total bullpen day, where you're trying to get 5 pitchers short stints and patch together 9 innings. But if we come back, he's a genuis.

Someone asked who was pitching gor USF. Apparently Cy Young with all these strike outs.

This is their #4 pitcher? You can't think you're winning this game with less than 6 runs at a minimum. Bats need to wake up.

USF up 4-0. Penders is probably kicking himself on the starting pitching choice at the moment. But a lot of baseball left to be played.

If they are going to finish the tourney tomorrow, and we'll have to play twice to win it, Wallace and PJ aren't coming in to a game we're behind in. If Dunlop doesn't have it, we will give up a lot of runs.

Ugh. At this point you might as well leave Dunlop in and save even the back end of the bullpen as much as you can. In a tourney like this, it's always a huge risk to not start your best available pitcher for any game. Penders rolled the dice. Snake eyes it was. We should have an advantage with Kersten and their #5 starter whenever the next game is.

Well that sucks. The fun thing about college baseball tho is that there's bigger chances for comebacks like this. Gonna take a Herculean effort, but it is still early.

Gee, when we get far behind we become even more impatient at the plate. Swing at everything. Gonna be a quick easy game for starter and won't need to use their bullpen again.

DR is a mess. Sure looks like we want the mercy rule and want to get out of there.

Our bullpen is getting rocked. Crap show here. Hope they come ready to play for the next one.

They expect anyone beyond PJ, Wallace and Cate to be shelled. Not being shelled will be blind luck.

If the tourney is going to finish tomorrow, and we pitch Kersten and at least one of PJ or Wallace to get to a final, hard to see how we're stringing together 9 innings of pitching in a Final. Hopefully our opponent has the same problem, but this by UConn standards is a very thin staff.

Not much to say about this one that hasn’t been said. Following any game from work is not much fun, but this? In addition to Colby Dunlop having a miserable start, Thad Phillips also found his way back into the lineup and made his own negative contributions to this loss.

Jeff Kersten will no doubt get the next start. He has been shaky and prone to the homer ball in his last couple of starts against Houston and East Carolina. Kersten needs to have one of his effective starts where he is ridiculously efficient, getting ahead on the strike count, hitting his spots, and getting quick outs for at least the first half of the game.
