Depends if they already have another team lined up. I know portal does not open to January but if you do not think the best players who enter the portal do not already know where they are going I have a bridge to sell you,

None of our "better players" are moving blind to the portal. They're aware of what the offers are. Agents have been working the phones. There's big money for Ben out there in Portal land.
 
We’re a senior heavy team with a lot of guys trying to make a case for the NFL. I would expect a lot of them to at least wait for the bowl matchup before they decide to stay or go.

Yeah my guess is any good player in the portal already has a new home lined up before opting for the transfer portal.

Agents working the phones would be happening even if VoldeMora stayed.

This is the way it works now. Open free agency. Muraski is borderline NFL talent who will probably be a UDFA, I can’t blame him for looking for a pay day. The other option is that we match his offer. He will definitely start here should he come back.

The people heading to the exits are why I’d like to see the next coach come from a school that has some number of FB talent that will follow him. Is that Cahill, Carty, etc. Chesney would be a great add, but he is probably going P2. Asking a coach to start from scratch with no contacts is a lot to ask in this day and age. He may need 30+ new players, possibly 40.

And alot of places spend it. Looks like 5-6 to the portal who had serious roles next year. (not done yet ?) I did a quick roster check. So far DB and LB are 2 position groups that are decimated with pretty much no experience as things currently stand.

Some of it certainly matters, but I would say Edsall left Mora with more than he will be leaving for the next guy. And RE certainly wasn't poaching players and recruits on the way out. But in this era of NIL and REV sharing it's a lot easier to overcome than in the past ( see our #18 Rivals national portal ranking in 2024).

Maybe DB can add Mora's $1.5 buyout payment ( paid by COL St.) to the player pool, 😉 .... since they want upgrade their talent from Uconn's roster. Either way I guess it better financially than having to pay a guy like Diaco $5mil just to leave with the chit show he left behind.

When Edsall left the 1st time there was no portal. When he left the 2nd time where was he gonna take them? The golf course?
 
I will always support UConn football but the current college football system is ridiculous. We recruit and develop young players and as soon as they start to blossom,we watch them get poached by programs with more money etc. Even pro sports have contracts so the entire team can’t enter free agency every season. Obviously with the coach leaving it encourages this even more but it’s gonna happen regardless. We have money and will get new guys but this is a crazy way to do things. The bowl games are a joke with interim coaches and depleted rosters. They should start with delaying the portal opening til after the playoffs end.
